If heat is the process of energy transfer from one body to another, then that is what Kevin Eubanks has set out to do with velvety guitar sounds that will rub you the right way. Familiar to millions of viewers nightly as the leader of Jay Leno's Tonight Show Band, Eubanks creates this generation's finest creative jazz tunes on The Heat of Heat. Dreamy and memorizing, Eubanks creates an odyssey, with him leading the way, that compels you to dance, twirl, evoke your inner sexuality.

One of the first American groups to discover that synthesizers and pop are made for each other. The complete studio recordings of a legendary project from the West Coast – for the first time on CD. Moebius (not to be confused with Dieter Moebius!) was a Californian project led by Bryce Robbley and Doug Lynner (for some time the line-up including Steve Roach), whose fascination with synthesizers was combined with catchy, trance-like tunes which were able to take over the disco dance floors. Disco, synth-pop and pulsating sequencers! The group’s début album from 1979 is recognised today as a cult recording – partly because of the wild, punk-electronic version of The Doors’ “Light My Fire”, but above all thanks to the frontmen’s original compositions.

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is one of those success stories that is almost too perfect to be true. The internationally respected orchestra was founded by Daniel Barenboim and the late Palestinian writer and scholar Edward Said with young, highly talented Israeli and Arab musicians. The ensemble works to establish dialogue between the cultures of the Middle East through the experience of playing music together, and has gained cultural and musical respect all over the world.

This was the first of Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba's recordings to appear in the United States, and it's a stunning introduction to his work. He's more than ably supported by Charlie Haden and Jack DeJohnette, with Haden's fundamentalist approach to the bass acting as a secure anchor to Rubalcaba's frequent flights of virtuosity and DeJohnette's polyrhythmic approach. With his deep roots in the rhythmic language of Cuban music, Rubalcaba brings a subtle and complex pulse to even his most reflective moments at the keyboard. He's also rooted in some of the more adventurous paths that jazz took in the 1960s, as that stellar rhythm section would suggest. It shows in the original approaches that he finds to Coltrane's "Giant Steps," Bill Evans's "Blue in Green," and Ornette Coleman's "The Blessing."

The present box is the fourth of five. Together it's 50 CDs of music by Klaus Schulze. It includes the former sets Silver Edition (10 CDs), Historic Edition (10 CDs), Jubilee Edition (25 CDs), and five new albums made especially as bonus for The Ultimate Edition.

Any Grappelli album contains a wealth of material by the cream of the song-writers and this present LP is no exception; indeed it includes songs which the violinist has never recorded before, plus two of his outstanding originals. The session took place in a vast film studio, capable of housing almost a complete concert orchestra, yet the intimate atmosphere created by Grappelli and Alan Clare points to the dedication to the task at hand. Grappelli and Clare have worked together many times over an extended period.

The Well-Tempered Clavier (Book 1) contains 24 preludes and 24 fugues, each piece a personality with its own unique character. A prelude is always followed by a fugue in the same key. With an endless fantasy Bach lets the different voices speak, each for itself yet also in dialogue with and attuned to each other. A perfect technical mastery of the form goes hand in hand with the ability to translate all conceivable human emotions into sound.

This is a collaboration between Rypdal (on electric guitar & synth), and David Darling (cello). If you think electric guitar & cello is an odd combination for a band, you're right! If you think it couldn't possibly work, you're wrong!! Moody and compelling, and definitely not for everyone.Worth it just for the track "Mirage", which lives up to its title sonically. The track "Laser" does the same also… a blistering solo electric guitar kills any semblance of peace and silence, and after it's over, sets up the hot-summer-day-let-me-lay-and-listen mood for the rest of the CD. All are well worth the listening effort.

An excellent idea (if, perhaps, a somewhat self-indulgent one): 12 of Peter Hammill's (Van Der Graaf Generator) finest recent songs, rendered into the German language that his more stentorian vocals seemed to be striving for, even in English. Titled for Out of Water's "Evidently Goldfish," the album is dominated by material from the early '90s: cuts from Fireships and The Noise account for more than half the album, while the remainder is culled from 1988's In a Foreign Town and 1986's And Close As This. But Offensichtlich Goldfisch is no simple retread of already familiar material. Although little more than the vocals were re-recorded from the original master tapes, the musical textures change immensely in their new setting, regardless of whether or not one understands German…

I'm With You is the forthcoming tenth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The album will be released by Warner Bros. Records on August 26, 2011 in several countries and on August 30 in the US. Produced by Rick Rubin, it is the band's first studio album to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, following the departure of John Frusciante in 2009, and is their first since Stadium Arcadium in 2006, marking the longest gap, to date, between studio albums.
