In recent years, Chance Hayden has established himself as one of the finer guitarists blowing outta’ Portland, Oregon, blessed with taste, melodicism, chops and fluency in various musical languages. He comes on strong but sweetly on his latest album, Grab & Go, a neo-soul-jazz outing with nods to historical roots, but also lined with modern twists and ear-grabbing harmonic rope-a-dope. This is party-ready jazz, but with brains and nimble guitar venturing in the bargain.

Dabei wohnt er streng genommen gar nicht mehr in Berlin, sondern ist im letzten Winter ins Umland in eine Brandenburgische Landkommune – 40 km von der Hauptstadt entfernt - gezogen. Doch zum Musizieren zieht es ihn nach wie vor in die Stadt, wo er u.a. mit Nils Frahm, Jimi Tenor, Peter Fox oder den Beatsteaks Platten aufnimmt und Konzerte bestreitet. Insofern passt es, dass er das zweite Studio-Album seines Quartetts, das am 06.11.2020 bei XJAZZ Music erscheint, „Stadt“ genannt hat. Sein Debütalbum in der Funktion als Bandleader aus dem Jahre 2018 nannte er „Wald“, komponiert wurde es aber auf der niederländischen Insel Vlieland und Koch reiste mit dem Album im Gepäck schließlich bis nach Athen.

Even though they were a global chart-topping, hit-making machine less than ten years prior, David Coverdale came up empty when he tried to find a U.S.-based record company to issue the group's 1997 release, Restless Heart (available Stateside only as an import). To Coverdale's credit, he did not attempt to give Whitesnake a modern-day makeover (which so many pop- metal bands of the late '80s did post-Nirvana, and failed miserably), as he follows in the same melodic rock mold of Whitesnake's previous two releases, 1987's Whitesnake and 1989's Slip of the Tongue…

Known for his expert songwriting, emotive vocals and fantastic instrumental technique, Cantuaria has led a successful career as a solo artist since the 1980s and as a collaborator of the utmost taste even longer, including work with Caetano Veloso, David Byrne, Bill Frisell, Arto Lindsay and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The new recording Vinicius canta Antonio Carlos Jobim is a dedication to this hero of Brazilian music. Cantuaria takes on this classic material in the most personal way he could, performing most of the music himself, playing acoustic and electric guitars and percussion. The album was recorded in Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro, and provided an opportunity to reach out to a number of talented and musical friends, most notably Frisell, Sakamoto, Joyce, guitarist Chico Pinheiro and Melody Gardot.
