Now That’s What I Call Music continue that year-based CD collections of 1980s twelve-inch mixes with a new 4CD set: NOW 12″ 80s: Part One! 1984 was always going to be a great year for this series, even if we are by now very familiar with the songs of this spectacularly good 12-month period. Sony Music, Universal Music, Now Twic, EMI Records! The compilation starts with the hard-to-get-on-CD 12-inch version of Queen’s ‘I Want To Break Free’ before celebrating all that was great about 1984 with extended selections from Tina Turner (‘What’s Love Got To Do With It)’, Duran Duran (‘New Moon On Monday’), Alison Moyet (the Love Injected Mix of ‘Love Resurrection’, Ray Parker Jr. (have a guess?), Mathew Wilder (‘Break My Stride’), Thompson Twins (‘Doctor! Doctor!’), Howard Jones (‘What Is Love?’) and more.

Michael Jackson helped shape the sound and style of the 1970s and '80s and was one of the 20th century's defining stars, an artist and all-around entertainer who greatly informed pop culture on a global scale. The singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer rose to stardom at the dawn of the '70s as the prodigious focal point of the Jackson 5. Amid early success with the sibling Motown group, who would remain prominent for several years, Jackson branched out as a solo artist, and with "Ben" (1972) he topped the pop chart for the first of 13 times. A later starring role in The Wiz sparked a creative partnership with producer Quincy Jones. The first result was Off the Wall (1979), a dazzling disco-era album that announced Jackson as a mature talent with the number one hits "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You." Determined to appeal to R&B, rock, and pop audiences at once, he responded with Thriller (1982).

Zach Bryan Indebted to the literary side of Red Dirt – he wrote a song saluting Evan Felker of the Turnpike Troubadours, one of the genre's leading lights of the 2010s – Zach Bryan is a plaintive country troubadour. He began carving out his career while still enlisted in the Navy, recording his 2019 debut album, DeAnn, during a break in his service. It, along with videos he posted online, helped him cultivate an audience that crested with the 2020 release of Elisabeth and its accompanying single "Heading South." Bryan capitalized on his burgeoning popularity with American Heartbreak, a sprawling 2022 triple album that marked his major-label debut and mainstream breakthrough: it debuted at number one on Billboard's Country Albums chart.

Choir of King's College, Cambridge L'un des plus anciens et célèbre choeurs d'université au monde, le Choeur du King's College de Cambridge est fondé en 1441 sur ordre du roi Henri VI. Mutsuyuki Motomura, born in Kagoshima Japan, started concert activities in his teens. After earning a bachelor's degree of engineering at the University of Tokyo, he studied both modern and early music with Walter van Hauwe at Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam, and proceeded to his postgraduate study with Jeanette van Wingerten. After years of musical activities in Europe, he is now one of the leading recorder player in Japan.He gives life to the recorder’s characteristics – celestial limpid tones and subtle narrative nuances. His performance expresses the exquisite combination to bring out the charms of each piece – not only a masterpiece but also a small piece. He forms the boroque ensemble ‘Lusthoffers’ and the recorder consort ‘SWEET FLUTES’. Besides, his own recital series extensively covering recorder repertoire is attracting much attention.

Whitesnake An English hard rock institution founded by former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale, Whitesnake emerged in the late 1970s with a style steeped in the driving British blues-rock of bands like Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, and of course, Deep Purple. After recalibrating their sound to better adapt to the burgeoning '80s hair and pop-metal scene, they found commercial success with 1984's Slide It In and then cannonballed into the mainstream in 1987 with the release of their multi-platinum-selling eponymous seventh effort, which spawned the power ballad "Is This Love" and the massive crossover number one hit "Here I Go Again." Whitesnake weathered the onslaught of grunge and alternative rock for as long as they could but eventually ceased operations in the early '90s. A one-off studio album, Restless Heart, appeared in 1997, but the group didn't officially re-form until 2002. Since then, Coverdale and company have released a string of well-received studio albums, including 2008's Good to Be Bad and 2011's Forevermore; the former hit number seven on the U.K.

Originally formed at Cambridge University by the order of King Henry VI, King's College Choir have long established an enviable international reputation as one of the greatest of all choirs, responsible for numerous acclaimed recordings and concerts. King Henry VI wanted to form a choir that would be worthy of services at the magnificent chapel he had built at King's College and that still remains their primary purpose. They still sing for the daily services, but their fame is such that, out of term time, they are regularly seen on television or heard on the radio and have made many high-profile recordings along with prestigious concert tours all over the world. They sing in an annual live radio broadcast of the famous Christmas Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, which is heard by tens of millions of people around the world, while television broadcasts include annual carol services.

Sir Simon Rattle Over a career, including extended tenures with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Simon Rattle has become recognized as one of the world's top conductors. Mostly focusing on symphonic music, he has also conducted major operatic productions. A native of Liverpool, Rattle was born on January 19, 1955. He studied piano, violin, and percussion as a youngster, joining the Merseyside Youth Orchestra as a percussionist and later playing with Britain's National Youth Orchestra. He gravitated naturally toward conducting, taking up the baton in his early teens and founding his own orchestra, the Liverpool Sinfonia, when he was just 15.

This disc set was recorded at the Marlowe Theatre Canterbury on the 22nd February 2003. and features: Dave Pegg, Simon Nicol, Ric Sanders, Chris Leslie, Gerry Conway and Andy Gutteridge.

German dance-pop duo Modern Talking were formed in Berlin in early 1983 by Dieter Bohlen, then a composer and producer employed by the Intersong label. Teaming with vocalist Thomas Anders, they soon began work on their first single, 1984's "You're My Heart, You're My Soul." Modern Talking's debut LP, succinctly titled The 1st Album, followed a year later on the heels of their second single, "You Can Win If You Want." The duo's sophomore effort, Let's Talk About Love, appeared in late 1985, launching the smash "Cheri Cheri Lady." With 1986's Ready for Romance, Modern Talking scored their biggest hit yet with "Brother Louie." However, after 1986's In the Middle of Nowhere, tensions between Bohlen and Anders reached a boiling point, and following the release of their fifth LP, Romantic Warriors, Bohlen assembled a new project, Blue System. The final Modern Talking album, In the Garden of Venus, appeared in late 1987 after they had disbanded. Anders then launched a solo career. In 1997, the duo reunited for a comeback effort in 1998's Back for Good. Though Modern Talking would disband again in 2003, the span produced another five albums: Alone (1999), 2000: Year of the Dragon (2000), America (2001), Victory (2002), and their 12th career album, Universe (2003). The latter produced the German number two hit "TV Makes the Superstar," which also charted in Austria and Switzerland. They returned to the studio again for 2017's Back for Gold: The New Versions, a collection of original and reworked versions of their biggest hits.
