Over the years, valencian saxophonist Perico Sambeat has become a benchmark in the world of jazz. His prolific career has led him to share the stage at festivals and programming worldwide with artists like Dave Douglas, Sasseti Bernardo, Bob Sands, Chris Kase, George Colligan, Chano Dominguez … and burn discs among them with Crossroads Gerardo Nunez Meldhau Friendship with Brad, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jeff Ballard (edited by ACT, prestigious German label and international presence), or Flamenco big Band, Miguel Poveda, Javier Colina or Miralta and edited by Marc-Verve Universal.

As a tight, longstanding jazz ensemble, Yellowjackets has explored a universe all its own of electro-acoustic soundscapes in its nearly four-decade history. Since the band’s eponymous 1981 debut album, Yellowjackets has consistently forged ahead with innovative and challenging artistic statements. For Jackets XL, its 25th album and fourth for Mack Avenue Music Group, the band continues to stretch and reinvent itself with an exciting, full-bodied collaboration with the superb WDR Big Band of Cologne, Germany. The word "heritage" in this N.Y.C.-based blues collective's name is technically correct since, with one exception, they stick to traditional fare. And Still I Rise features mostly old blues material given a serious jolt of modernist energy, but without sacrificing any of the original character. The Heritage Blues Orchestra are like a more potent Carolina Chocolate Drops, their basic guitar, harmonica and handclap grooves given further colour and character by bustling drums and the inventive horn arrangements of French saxist Bruno Wilhelm. Their potent thump, twang and honk injects wallop into Son House's "Clarksdale Moan" and a fast, hard-rolling feel to Muddy Waters's "Catfish Blues". Elsewhere, railroad shuffles, swampy slide-guitar throbs, gospel call-and-response chants and a reggae-like take on Rosco Gordon's jump-blues slouch are applied.

Ziribuye es un disco de jazz con mayúsculas, aquí no vemos a Perico con su vena flamenquita sino que vemos al Perico más hardbopero rodeado de un sexteto que tiene química y con unos temas de esos que se te meten en la cabeza. El sonido del sexteto está condicionado por la textura del teclado de José Reinoso ofreciendo un concepto muy parecido al quinteto de Raynald, que está soberbio en este Ziribuye. Paco también se sale y hace un precioso solo en Cató-scopio. En Rosa dels vents podemos oír a la hermana de Sambeat cantando una bonita canción.

Alto and soprano saxophonist Perico Sambeat is considered today as one of the most important spanish jazz musicians, owning a tremendous prestige with an extraordinary musical career inside and out of Spain. With more than twenty recordings as a leader and near a hundred as a sideman, they´re specially remarkable his works with musicians as Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tete Montoliu, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, and many others. Along his life, he´s received numerous awards, such as the "Bird Award" given by the North Sea Jazz Festival to the musician deserving wider recognition (2003), or the one given to the best recording of the year to "Flamenco Big Band" (2008 and 2009)

German pianist Martin Helmchen continues his journey through Beethoven’s piano concertos with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester and Andrew Manze. In the Third Concerto, published in 1804, Beethoven seems to be moving away from the Mozartian model and inaugurates his ‘middle period’, using the minor mode to depict a distress and heartache that are certainly not unconnected with the famous ‘Heiligenstadt Testament’, which he wrote in 1802 to record his growing deafness. Martin Helmchen is joined by two partners with whom he performs a great deal of chamber music - violinist Antje Weithaas and cellist Marie- Elisabeth Hecker - to record the Triple Concerto, also written during the composer’s so-called ‘heroic’ period.
