The album is music from and inspired by the film and features tracks from the mightiest of 80s artists including Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Pet Shop Boys, New Order and Culture Club to name but a few. The film is life-affirming, funny and poignant and is expected to be a box office hit in 2014.

This production from Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti Modena is conducted by Fabrizio Ventura. He has performed at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as well as the Arena di Verona and the Sydney Opera House. The cast is led Giacomo Prestia who has performed with some of the world’s greatest conductors including Abbado, Mehta, Muti, Gatti and Barenboim. He is supported by Mario Malagnini and Cellia Costea.
At a mere five minutes, Arvo Pärt's Summa is actually the shortest composition on this CD. But, for its sheer, austere beauty, the work makes a fitting introduction to this orchestral disc. Pärt's trademark "tintinnabulation" style is in full effect on this sublime recording. Each of these works sounds simple and minimalist, yet also achingly profound. In Pärt's Symphony No. 3 (the earliest piece here, dating from 1971), the roots of his groundbreaking technique are just beginning to take shape: the ringing of bells, the calculated tension, and the hints of early music all add to the three-movement work's drama.

Abbey Lincoln's third of three Riverside albums directly precedes her more adventurous work with drummer (and then-husband) Max Roach. With fine backup from trumpeter Kenny Dorham, pianist Wynton Kelly, Les Spann (doubling on guitar and flute), bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Philly Joe Jones) on seven of the ten numbers, and by Roach's regular quintet at the time on the other three selections, Lincoln is quite emotional and distinctive during a particularly strong set. Highlights include the first vocal version ever of "Afro-Blue," "Come Sunday," Oscar Brown, Jr.'s "Brother, Where Are You," "Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise," "Long as You're Living," and Lincoln's own "Let Up." A very memorable set.
A marvelous album of varied colors and textures. The Evans arranging genius is much in evidence here. A wonderful companion to his best work with Miles Davis, "Into the Hot" also features three compositions by Cecil Taylor, who plays piano on the tracks. But fear not–apparently Mr. Evans had a calming effect on him, because Mr. Taylor has never played with such restraint. Highly recommended.

The Ventures are an American instrumental rock band, formed in 1958 in Tacoma, Washington, by Don Wilson and Bob Bogle. The band, a quartet for most of its existence, helped to popularize the electric guitar in the United States and across the world during the 1960s. While their popularity in the United States waned in the 1970s, the group remains especially revered in Japan, where they tour regularly to this day. The classic lineup of the band consisted of Wilson (rhythm guitar), Bogle (initially lead guitar, switched to bass), Nokie Edwards (initially bass, switched to lead guitar), and Mel Taylor (drums).

British blue-eyed soul man Frankie Miller had a great voice, a strong knack as a songwriter, and some pretty unfortunate luck with producers and arrangers. While he cut some solid sides with Brinsley Schwarz as his backing band and did even better work in the company of the legendary Allen Toussaint, the sad truth is there are as many duds as gems in his catalog, usually due to mismatched assistance in the studio. 1985's Dancing in the Rain paired Miller with producer and engineer John Jansen, who tricked him up with a morass of hard rock guitars, high-mixed drums, and periodic sax honks that suggest Jansen was hoping to turn Miller into the next Robert Palmer, since on the surface this album resembles Palmer's "Addicted to Love" era and Power Station hits more than anything else…
