Originally commissioned to celebrate the completion of the Suez Canal and the opening of Cairo’s new opera house, Verdi’s Egyptian epic Aida is here seen in a spectacular new staging in the Teatro Regio Torino by the Oscar-winning American film director William Friedkin, creator of such famous movies as The Exorcist and The French Connection. The cast featuring the American soprano Kristin Lewis, who exhibits “a remarkable voice, which she uses with powerful dramatic instinct” (La Stampa), and the Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, whose Amneris “dominates the stage with her dark, rounded, irresistible voice and extraordinary stage presence” (La Gazzetta Musicale) is first-rate.

The 20th Anniversary Edition comes with a second disc of standout remixes from the time, including the previously vinyl only Jack Dangers dub, plus a handful of fresh remixes by fellow Disco Gecko artists.

“Hard to pin down, harder to hold onto. Bent circuit board snake charmers unfurl across hexagonal grids. A seemingly familiar sound but then you realize you have your ear pressed against a reflection. Sunwatchers are a distorted prism to so many past greats. Reminiscent of Ethiopiques, John Handy Band, Terry Riley, Art Ensemble meets Laddio Bolocko…Forever swirling saxophone blended belly to belly with elastic guitar and tin foil thin phin (a thai instrument not unlike an electrified tenor guitar or sitar). A whirlpool of repetitious interpretations. Militaristic marches ascend into meditations. These songs map out great pyramids and deep buried labyrinths. They are massive. They are leviathans.

The first volume of ‘Selected Percussive Tracks…’ begins to collect some of the myriad material Paw Grabowski aka øjeRum has created over the last 25 years. Known primarily as a collage artists and practitioner of some of the most lauded and admired ambient music being created today. With ‘Selected Percussive Tracks…’ the velveteen warmth often associated with Paw’s music is still there but as was seen on his first Opal release ‘Through The Archway Of Mouths’ minimal, rhythmic features start to become the force of momentum in a music which often feels endless and gaussian. The six pieces on Vol. I date back to 1998 to 2001 and confirm the long standing aesthetics with which øjeRum has stuck to for the following 20+ years.

Singer and keyboard player Gianni Leone tried a solo career with the new name of Leo Nero after the demise of his band Il Balletto di Bronzo, and the result was a very good album, Vero, released by Harvest in 1977 and recorded a year before in New York. The album is totally played and sung by Leo himself, and despite some commercial pop songs, it has some good moments reminding of his old band's sound, like in "La Discesa Nel Cervello", "Il Castello" and the intense closing track "Una Gabbia Per Me". Obviously the sound is mainly keyboard based, but Leone played drums, minimoog bass lines and even guitar on some tracks.

The Ventures are an American instrumental rock band, formed in 1958 in Tacoma, Washington, by Don Wilson and Bob Bogle. The band, a quartet for most of its existence, helped to popularize the electric guitar in the United States and across the world during the 1960s. While their popularity in the United States waned in the 1970s, the group remains especially revered in Japan, where they tour regularly to this day. The classic lineup of the band consisted of Wilson (rhythm guitar), Bogle (initially lead guitar, switched to bass), Nokie Edwards (initially bass, switched to lead guitar), and Mel Taylor (drums).

It Ain't Right is Jimmy Burns' first studio set in a long time – 12 years, to be precise, a belated sequel to 2003's Back to the Delta. It Ain't Right doesn't make any pretenses about returning to Burns' Mississippi roots but rather settles into a wonderfully textured soulful groove, something relaxed and elastic, a sound that gives plenty of space to both his clean, hopping guitar and robust vocals.

UK eight track CD pressing of this single lifted from the Synthpop duo's 2011 album Tomorrow's World. 'Fill Us With Fire' was produced by one of the dance scene's most exciting new talents, Frankmusik and mixed by Rob Orton. The single also includes an exclusive b-side and remixes from Gareth Jones, JRMX, Liam Keegan, DJ Yiannis and Wayne G.

This album features the power trio of K. Watanabe on all guitars & guitar synths, fantastic bassist Jeff Berlin and Bill Bruford who was the drummer for the classic rock band Yes. By the time Kazumi Watanabe expanded beyond jazz to join the fusion movement, it was the '80s and fusion had all but died in The States. It was a pure delight to see this man keep fusion alive with a mixture of rock, the hard-driving beats and rythms of the '80s which kept the music current in its time and updated the sound that had once been the property of the '70s.

In their decade as a band, Pure Reason Revolution relentlessly innovated on every release. Their debut was a modern spin on classic prog, as accessible to fans of Tool and Muse as it was to Pink Floyd fans. Amor Vincit Omnia and Hammer and Anvil took them into electronic territory, all while maintaining a common progressive rock thread.
