Party of Four features two unreleased tracks and two demos from the Party of One sessions, showing Nick's recording process at the time. "You Stabbed Me in the Front" and "Rocket Coast" could've fit perfectly on the album, showcasing Nick's unrivaled wit and razor-sharp songwriting. The demo for “Rocky Road” shows an early example of how the studio cut came to be, and the demo for "Don't Think About Her" would later become fully realized when Little Village, Nick's supergroup with Ry Cooder, John Hiatt and Jim Keltner, released their self-titled album in 1992.

Gates' songs have been recorded by many artists, including Telly Savalas, who had a UK #1 hit with "If" in 1975, Boy George, who took "Everything I Own" to #1 on the UK chart in 1987, Vesta Williams made a rendition of "Make It With You" in 1988 and Ray Parker Jr, who recorded "The Guitar Man" in 2006.

Transposing the plot to the Italy of the 1950s, director Laurent Pelly (La Fille du Régiment in London and New York, with Natalie Dessay) offers us an absolute jewel, beautifully crafted and shot through with poetry. American Heidi Grant Murphy sings Adina, accompanied by tenor Paul Groves as Nemorino. “Doctor” Dulcamara is masterfully played by the up-front Ambrogio Maestri and Laurent Naouri‘s Belcore is delightfully repulsive. Appointed music director of the English National Opera in 2006, young British conductor Edward Gardner conducts the Paris Opera Orchestra.

This Vanessa Rubin release is a tribute to Carmen McRae. Although she cites McRae as a major influence, Rubin actually does not sound much like her and leans as much toward middle-of-the-road music as jazz. Also, not all of these songs are really identified with McRae (most notably "Send in the Clowns" which was largely owned by Sarah Vaughan). The ballad-dominated set does have a reasonable amount of variety, Rubin gets off some fine scatting on "Yardbird Suite" and she introduces an excellent original in "No Strings Attached." A variety of guests (including Grover Washington, Jr., Frank Foster, Antonio Hart, Cecil Bridgewater, Kenny Burrell and Monty Alexander) only appear on one or two songs apiece and do not make that much of an impression. However Vanessa Rubin's attractive voice is strong enough to carry the music and this release is a step forward for her. ~ AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

John Porter once again recorded the album "silently" - without media noise, loud promotion. Probably because the material for the Honey Trap is not specifically media - say, an elderly man twang guitar, accompanied by several other "gingerbread", and to reach for worldwide hackneyed themes of Americana, country, blues and rock 'n' roll. If we treat this album just as it will commit a big mistake. Long ago no one in our not delivered as racial disc.

Last November Steve Gadd and Chuck Mangione reserved the month of March, 1994 to co-produce "The Hat's Back" album - (Chuck's first in several years). They began to weave this project into their already hectic schedules. The holidays, family responsibilities and two diverse performing itineraries somehow allowed sufficient time to select material and develop a feel for the music. At Steve's suggestion, they went into the studio one February night to layout a musical roadmap of the new material.

A playful, thoughtful, and quick witted encounter between Egyptian saxophonist Alexandra Grimal and French double bassist Joelle Leandre, at times each on voice, emphasizing a "desired disorder" in their approach to instant composition and declaring that neither determines the course of the music, but that they follow it simply as the music decides; wonderful.

It also gave him his first solo Top 40 hit with "Big Log". The most popular track on album-oriented rock radio in the US was "Other Arms", which reached number one on the Billboard Top Tracks chart. Genesis drummer Phil Collins played drums for six of the album's eight songs (as he did on "Pictures at Eleven"). On the other two tracks former Jethro Tull drummer Barriemore Barlow performed.

In the early 1980s, hardcore fans of the Ohio Players would have loved to see the funksters come out with a truly great album and return to the top of the charts. But that didn't happen - there wouldn't be another Fire or Skin Tight for the Players, and it was obvious that the band was past their prime. The second of two little-known albums that the Midwesterners recorded for Boardwalk in 1981, Ouch! was a slight improvement over its forgettable predecessor Tenderness, but it's disappointing nonetheless. Thist LP was produced by Richard "Dimples" Fields, a talented vocalist/songwriter/producer, to be sure, but Ouch! is hardly his finest hour and isn't among the Players' more memorable releases.

Released in 1960, "A Fool in Love" shot to the number two spot on the R&B charts, also making the pop Top 30.
