The Music for Lovers series from EMI and Blue Note spotlights the balladic nature and romantic side of the artists who have recorded for its associated labels. Dianne Reeves performs in a variety of settings here, singing standards from the vocal jazz world as well as R&B and art rock. Beginning with an excellent 1982 reading of "My Funny Valentine" with Billy Childs, the volume picks up two Reeves performances from the late '80s.

Since the release in 2010 of his Felix award winning album Sep7entrion, Alain Caron has been quite busy touring the world. For this new album Multiple Faces, his eighth solo album to date, the bassist, composer calls on the same core musicians that shined on Sep7entrion. The quartet is also joined by a brilliant five piece brass section on two cuts: HURRY UP & WAIT & SFING.

Sadao Watanabe (渡辺 貞夫, Watanabe Sadao) (born February 1, 1933) is a Japanese musician who plays the alto saxophone, sopranino saxophone and flute. He is known for his bossa nova recordings, although his work encompasses a large range of styles with collaborations from musicians all over the world. He has had 13 albums reach the top 50 billboard charts and 2 within the top 10. He has also had numerous albums reach number one on the jazz charts.

Norah Jones’ seventh solo studio album grew out of her acclaimed singles series, as the unreleased songs unexpectedly congealed into an album of tremendous depth and beauty. Featuring a range of collaborators from Brian Blade to Jeff Tweedy, Pick Me Up Off The Floor is connected by the sly groove of her piano trios, lyrics that confront loss and portend hope, and a mood that leans into darkness before ultimately finding the light.

Salt-N-Pepa exhibited a lot of growth on Blacks' Magic (1990), their third album and, by far, best to date. For their follow-up, Very Necessary, released a long three and a half years later, in 1993, the ladies delivered a fairly similar album. Like its predecessor, Very Necessary boasts a pair of major hits ("Whatta Man," "Shoop") and a lot of fine album tracks. Also like Blacks' Magic, Very Necessary is filled with strong, prideful rhetoric: femininity, sex, relationships, romance, respect, love – these are the key topics, and they're a world apart from those of the gangsta rap that was so popular circa 1993. And as always, the productions are dance-oriented, with a contemporary R&B edge.

On October 3, one day after his critically-lauded 1994 Bridge Concert, Neil Young and Crazy Horse re-entered the Complex Recording Studios in Los Angeles. Earlier in the year, the band had recorded the album Sleeps With Angels there, but this session was arranged to film a series of music videos. Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme was on hand to document the recording session, which began at 6:30 PM on Monday evening and concluded at 4:30 the next morning. This music featured on this disc is the result of those eventful sessions.

If Day at the Races was a sleek, streamlined album, its 1977 successor, News of the World, was its polar opposite, an explosion of styles that didn't seem to hold to any particular center…
