Now we finally get to 'Chosen Star Child's Confession', the latest studio album from the band which should be considered the genuine 'first album' of this new line-up with the added presence of Geoff Leigh (ex Henry Cow)

Following remix work for Björk and Zola Jesus, productions for serpentwithfeet, and her debut album on Tri-Angle, American experimental musician and producer Katie Gately moves to Houndstooth for her sophomore album Loom, dedicated to her mother, who passed away in 2018.

Working with the same quintet that delivered his 2012 album Be Still, trumpeter Dave Douglas returns to a more straight-ahead, if no less adventurous, jazz style with 2013's Time Travel. Once again joining Douglas here are his bandmates saxophonist Jon Irabagon, pianist Matt Mitchell, bassist Linda Oh, and drummer Rudy Royston. Absent is vocalist Aoife O'Donovan, who was the focal point of Be Still's hymn, folk song, and ballads approach. Here, Douglas is interested in a more angular post-bop sound that, while still evincing a modern creative vibe, fits more squarely into the jazz tradition than Be Still. Which isn't to say this album is staid by any means. On the contrary, Douglas has penned a handful of harmonically challenging pieces that mix the knotty, rambunctious angularity of Thelonious Monk with the expansive impressionist modalism of '60s Miles Davis.

Claudio Abbado was undeniably the supreme Mahler conductor of our time. With his Lucerne Festival Orchestra he has set new standards in the field of classical music, especially in the interpretation of works by Gustav Mahler. The core of the orchestra is provided by the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, itself an élite body of players. Soloists like violinist Kolja Blacher, clarinettist Sabine Meyer, oboist Albrecht Mayer, violist Wolfram Christ, cellist Natalia Gutman, the Hagen Quartet and members of the Alban Berg Quartet to name just a few, make the Lucerne Festival Orchestra a star-studded ensemble.

FEUERSCHWANZ, the German folk-rock act from Erlangen, have been a great success in the folk community for over 15 years. Their rich discography now gets a ninth addition in “Das Elfte Gebot,” out on 26 June 2020 through Napalm Records. The deluxe version comes with an extra album “Die sieben Todsünden,” filled with a variety of different cover songs in the trademark FEUERSCHWANZ style.

Ray Vega's fourth album not only confirms his status as one of the leading Afro-Cuban trumpeters of his generation, but also shows an admirable willingness not to be stuck in one subgenre of jazz forever. Squeeze, Squeeze focuses mostly on band originals, composed not only by Vega but also by bassist Gregg August, whose "Crescent Mood" has an enjoyably retro feel that recalls the smooth, fusiony jazz of the CTI Records crowd, and alto saxophonist Bobby Porcelli, whose post-bop ballad "Both" is one of the album's highlights. The album has a few standard Afro-Cuban jazz pieces, most notably the closing "La Tercera," the rollicking title track, and a bracing take on Wayne Shorter's "Black Nile"…

Rollins' 20th album for Fantasy finds him once again addressing environmental issues through his music as he previously had on 1958's Freedom Suite. In fact, Rollins refers to this disc as his "Freedom Suite of 1998." Besides the calypso-influenced title track, Rollins also pens three other new songs to fit this environmentally conscious project, "Mother Nature's Blues," "Echo-Side Blues," and "Clear Cut Boogie." Also on tap is a scintillating remake of "Island Lady" and the Gershwin standard "Change Partners." Utilizing a quartet for three of the tracks and a sextet for the remainder, Rollins' blowing is impassioned throughout and the surroundings are nice and intimate, making this a very inspired set.

Recorded live at the East: A Cultural and Educational Center for People of African Descent, New Directions in Modern Music is yet another rewarding recording from the Survival archives. "As-Salaam-Alikum" begins with the quick statement of a memorable theme, which fades into a fiery Carlos Ward improvisation ranking amongst the finest moments in spiritual avant-garde playing. In fact, the album calls to mind Alice Coltrane's P'tah the El'Daoud and Franklin Kiermyer's Solomon's Daughter, with Fred Simmons' punchy, sparse chords and Tyner-inspired runs complementing the group well.

Tolerance is a Venezuelan band formed on April 2003 by singer Ricardo Figueroa and drummer Rodrigo Nunez. After several line-up changes and ten years of hard work, the group finally records its debut album, "When Time Stops", on the Musea Parallèle label. Here's a blend of hard-rock, funk, heavy-metal, classical music and electronic sounds, full of musicianship defined by overwhelming drumming, powerful guitar riffs, clever keyboards arrangements and remarkable vocals. The lyrics are related to topics such as existence, science, politics and environmental issues. Some of the most important band's influences are Deep Purple, Rush, Steve Vai, Magellan, Planet X, Living Colour and Dream Theater among others. "When Time Stops" was recorded and mixed in Caracas, Venezuela, and mastered in Nashville, Tennessee. Some Venezuelan guest musicians took part of this recording, including three bassists.

Soulful, inventive, original yet steeped in the knowledge of electric guitar history. A great record/Deeply satisfying guitar blues. This haunting, bluesy album is thrilling to listen to. Although Ulreich demonstrates unquestionable control of his instrument, it's his enduring years as a performer connecting with audiences that drives his licks. Ulreich's melodies are emotionally (and harmonically) rich and distinctive yet surprisingly direct.
