‘Virus’ is the culmination of a musical thought experiment which started with the ‘Vector’ writing sessions in 2017 and holds intriguing potential for the band’s future, as vocalist Ross Jennings explains, “whilst ‘Virus’ can absolutely be enjoyed as a stand-alone work, it is thematically and conceptually linked with ‘Vector’, so our intention is to perform both albums back to back for a special performance someday”.

A Band Is Born/Big Band Bash collects two of Billy May's early-'50s albums onto one CD. Both albums balance his big-band roots with a bit of the pop he would explore in his later work. "All of Me," "Fat Man Boogie," and "Lulu's Back in Town" are some of A Band Is Born's exuberant highlights, while "Orchids in the Moonlight," "Perfidia," and "Tenderly" make Big Band Bash a more romantic – but still swinging – affair. An ominous, red dyed horizon recalls ”Sylphlike”, “Towards The Twilight” or “The Last Sunsets” – the album that lead Night In Gales back to their roots. 2018 marked the return of their initial singer Christian Müller but the year also saw their rediscovered love for melodic death metal in its initial form, which they delivered with overwhelming enthusiasm and a noticeable (re)connection with their own history. “Dawnlight Garden” consistently continues this path and delivers even more multifaceted material which underlines the compositional sophistication of the band. The opener “Atrocity Kings” paves the way for “Beyond The Light” to really explode. But there is always enough space for groove (“Winterspawn”) and semi-acoustic passages (“Kingdom”). The rerecorded „A Spark In The Crimson Eclipse” looks back on the „Razor“-EP which was originally released in 1996 to create another highlight. The character of the album is perfectly captured in the intense artwork by Costin Chioreanu (At The Gates, Arch Enemy…). While the horizon in the background is a nod to the band’s early days, the garden in the foreground symbolizes the here and the now with all its different aspects. Night In Gales open the gates of their “Dawnlight Garden” on July 24th through Apostasy Records.

5 CD Set covering the Pivotal Recordings of this jazz legend American jazz pianist Phineas Newborn, Jr. was widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted piano players of the genre, famous for his extended, virtuoso solos, often consisting of brisk, complex phrases using both hands in unison.

German power metal band Primal Fear issue 13th full-length studio album Metal Commando on July 24th, 2020 through Nuclear Blast Records. Bassist and producer Mat Sinner commented: “I don’t want to throw around superlatives, but each of us went to our utmost limits and we are all very happy with the sound and song material. It’s pretty safe to say that this is a top album and maybe even our strongest record to date. It’s the perfect mix between our origins and our current style – a perfect balance and all band members have done an awesome job playing and recording it. For me, Metal Commando is the right album at the right time!” Metal Commando was produced by Mat Sinner, while mixing duties fell to Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark.

Ambient Jazz Ensemble’s sound is inspired by a mix of Brian Eno, Gil Evans and Weather Report. From the offset “Eyes Wide Open” takes us on an glorious orchestral, slightly jazzy direction. Think Pat Metheny Group meets David Axelrod with a modern electronic twist. The horns, brass, strings and synths play off each other to create beautiful soundscapes. “The Journey”, showing the funkier side of Suite Shop, flirts with chorale music at its peak. The aptly titled “Quiet Hero” does exactly what it says on the tin: gorgeous tranquility which then builds in booth mood and intensity climaxing in electronic orchestral heaven, definitely one for festivals, sunsets and rises, epic moments personified. And then we confidently exit the Suite Shop “Never In Doubt” and roll the credits. Writer, Colin Baldry, is not short of Genius! Neil Cowley (Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, Neil Cowley Trio) plays keys on all 10 tracks alongside strings and a brass section featuring Finn Peters who’s played with Bill Frisell, Sam Rivers and DJ Spinna.

Verdi’s best-loved work, is performed here by a star cast in a revival of Richard Eyre’s highly acclaimed 1994 production. Music Director Antonio Pappano conducts La traviata for the first time at Covent Garden. American soprano Renée Fleming returns to Covent Garden to sing Violetta for the first time with The Royal Opera. La traviata was first performed at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice in March 1853.

After Silence is a celebration of VOCES8s fifteenth anniversary and the groups belief in the expressive power of the human voice. VOCES8 strives for versatility, and in this album they seek to showcase a selection of the choral repertoire for which we have become well known (Britten, Byrd and Harris amongst others), whilst also demonstrating the variety of genres and soundworlds the ensemble employs in order to engage with their diverse audiences. They hope you enjoy this collection of thought-provoking texts, illuminated by a wide range of choral textures, finding something of your own voice and experiences in After Silence. Both the Bach cantata (a collaboration with the groups friends in the Academy of Ancient Music), and the Monteverdi madrigals showcase the ensembles consort and solo skills, whilst the new Mahler adaptation illustrates their desire to push boundaries and extend choral repertoire. Over the years they have found it a joy to work with musicians from many spheres, and to collaborate with contemporary composers in the creation of new pieces written especially for VOCES8: Jonathan Doves commission for us, Vertue, is a treasured example.

Benjamin Francis Webster (March 27, 1909 – September 20, 1973) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. A native of Kansas City, Missouri he studied violin, learned how to play blues on the piano from Pete Johnson, and received saxophone lessons from Budd Johnson. He played with Lester Young in the Young Family Band. He recorded with Blanche Calloway and became a member of the Bennie Moten Orchestra with Count Basie, Hot Lips Page, and Walter Page. For the rest of the 1930s, he played in bands led by Willie Bryant, Benny Carter, Cab Calloway, Fletcher Henderson, Andy Kirk, and Teddy Wilson. He was a soloist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra in the 1940s, appearing on "Cotton Tail". He considered Johnny Hodges, an alto saxophonist in the Ellington orchestra, a major influence on his playing.

Some of the albums in this set are out-of-print, while others purchased individually are quite expensive. That alone makes this set not only a bargain, but a cache of excellent material that any Kenny Drew (or general jazz fan) should treasure.

Arthur Lyman (February 2, 1932 – February 24, 2002) was an American jazz vibraphone and marimba player. His group popularized a style of faux-Polynesian music during the 1950s and 1960s which later became known as exotica. His albums became favorite stereo-effect demonstration discs during the early days of the stereophonic LP album for their elaborate and colorful percussion, deep bass and 3-dimensional recording soundstage. Lyman was known as "the King of Lounge music.
