Trumpeter and singer Till Brönner and legendary keyboardist/pianist Bob James met at the equally famous “La Fabrique” studios in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, close to Marseille, in September 2019 to record “On Vacation” (Sony Music), an album of music that is supposed to get you to the places you want to go to for a holiday. And thus, the album closes with a very relaxed and easy-going version of “Basin Street Blues”, less bluesy, more swinging. And it opens with an equally sophisticated version of the Buddy Johnson classic “Save Your Love For Me”, with Till on flugelhorn and Bob’s signature touch on the piano where you think his hands only vaguely touch the keys. Harvey Mason‘s drum work complements softly, and a lyrical bass by Christian von Kaphengst adds to the elegance.

Even before their first session together, Barbra Streisand and collaborator Diana Krall designed Love Is the Answer as a deeply emotional record: "each song an exploration concerning matters of the heart." And with the arrangements of maestro Johnny Mandel simply drawing occasional shading around Streisand's expressive voice – and often leaving her voice as the only instrument – the album goes well beyond the usual saloon-song tropes to become a heart-wrenching experience with virtually every song. Additionally, although much was made of the collaboration, Krall's piano stays in the background, and Streisand's is the only voice heard.

Lionel Loueke's Heritage deftly intertwines modern jazz constructs with traditional African themes in a highly personal exploration of these two cultural streams which define Loueke's upbringing and musical identity. The result is a gracious, elevating and welcoming sound that still challenges preconceived notions.
Thoughtfully composed, the album's ten pieces together present an intimate - sometimes philosophical - complex musical meditation on the concept of heritage. Tunes like "Ouidah," inspired by the village where Loueke's mother was born and a center of the slave trade, find their origins in the concrete.
