Limited 29 disc (28 CDs + DVD) box. As a tribute to the one and only Dutch Blues legend Harry Muskee, 2016 will see the release of Alles Uit Grolloo. The box set contains all the original studio albums by Cuby + Blizzards plus the official live albums and all other projects of Muskee. Especially for this release the first albums are mastered in their mono versions. Even releases that have long been deleted, such as Kid Blue, Old Times Good Times, Forgotten Tapes, Afscheidsconcert and Red, White & Blue, are present here. Next to the 27 albums the box set contains a disc with rarities and a DVD with the Classic Albums documentary on the legendary "Groeten Uit Grollo" album.

The blind Catalonian pianist Tete Montoliu is in great form on this 1977 session recorded in Spain, accompanied by bassist Eric Peter and drummer Peer Wyboris. He shows off his tremendous chops in a roller coaster treatment of the bittersweet ballad "You've Changed," then switches to a jaunty mood for a brisk treatment of "It Could Happen to You." Wyboris kicks off the thunderous take of Jimmy Heath's "Jimmy's Tempo," a passionate hard bop vehicle. But the primary focus of this CD consists of four original blues penned by the pianist. It seems likely that at least some of them were improvised on the date, though "Blues for Coltrane" seems to draw inspiration from the late tenor saxophonist's rapid-fire live solos that left little open space. "Blues for Myself," the centerpiece of the release, seems closely related to "You've Changed," though the chord progressions do vary. Released by the Spanish label Ensayo, this disc is worth acquiring.

Bobby Brown's follow-up to the groundbreaking Don't Be Cruel isn't as innovative or consistent as his previous album, but that doesn't mean it's without any charms. The singles "Humpin' Around," "Good Enough," and "Get Away" are strong and memorable, which makes any of pleasant filler forgivable, and the seamless production makes it all listenable

Arguably Britain’s most successful reggae band, Aswad have been performing together since the mid 1970s and have released over 20 albums. This new compilation includes tracks from across the group’s career including their early roots reggae recordings to their later pop-reggae fusion hits. All 3 of Aswad’s top 20 hits are included: the UK #1 single ‘Don’t Turn Around’ which topped the charts 1988, the follow up single ‘Give A Little Love’, and 1994’s ‘Shine’ which peaked at #5. CD 1 opens with the group’s best known hit ‘Don’t Turn Around’ which was a top 10 hit across the globe and peaked at #1 in the UK singles charts. Other highlights on this CD include early hit ‘Back To Africa’, the 7” Beatmasters mix of ‘Shine’ which hit #5 in the UK singles chart in 1994, and a cover of Toot and the Maytals’s rocksteady classic ’54-46 That’s My Number’.

Swamp Dogg never stopped working in the late '70s but after 1974's Have You Heard This Story??, his last stab at a major, he faded away, grinding out records on labels that were, at best, regionally known. Things changed in 1981 when Takoma – a roots label then owed by Chrysalis Records – decided to sign Dogg and fund the recording of I'm Not Selling Out – I'm Buying In!, an album that represented both an artistic comeback and something of a signal boost as well. It, like all the other Swamp Dogg records before it, did not sell but it did garner attention upon its release, and it stands as one of his best and better-known albums. Despite Dogg's proclamation in the liner notes that he produced this album "because I love Rock & Roll," there's not much three-chord boogie here: just "Wine, Women and Rock 'n' Roll," plus the cheeky revival "Total Destruction to Your Mind Once Again."

From Bob James & David Sanborn's Grammy-winning Double Vision to George Benson & Earl Klugh's Collaboration, Warner Brothers has released some of the greatest dual projects in smooth jazz. Rick Braun's signing to the label this year has paved the way for the label's best tandem project yet, pairing the trumpet star's jazzy sensibilities with the ultra-funk dynamics of R&B saxman Boney James. Having never played extensively in Canada, in 2007 in support of their album Icky Thump, The White Stripes embarked on a tour designed to hit "every province and territory" in the country. And so they did. In addition to more conventional concerts they also played a series of "side shows," often concocted on the fly, and Malloy's camera finds them playing in bowling alleys, pool halls, tiny town squares, a fishing boat and, at one point, what appears to be a day-care center. Canadian-born guitarist, singer, and songwriter Anthony Gomes is a critically acclaimed chart-topping artist who plays a style of modern electric blues that incorporates elements of rock, soul, R&B, and country. Born in 1975 in Toronto, Canada, to a Portuguese father and a Canadian mother, he began playing guitar in his early teens and moved to Chicago, IL, in the late '90s with hopes of establishing himself as a musician. After honing his craft on the Windy City club circuit, he moved to Nashville, TN, where he found a home for himself amid the city's renowned music scene.

Former Klaatu member, Terry Draper has been very busy of late. Following 2019’s In My Garden, Draper has delivered his best solo album of his career. Sunset On Mars is a stunning album, full of strong melodies and brilliant lyrics.

Flashback to 2002, when Ipecac Recordings released a Melvins studio album called Hostile Ambient Takeover. The following year, they issued a series of 7" singles with the A-side from that record, but the B-side was an exclusive track of the Melvins take on various cover songs. Since then, people have wondered, "Yo Goober, is there gonna be a follow up LP with the B-'s?" It only took 17 years to answer that question, but yes, yes there is & it's called Hostile Ambient Besides.

Incredible album of bleeding-heart catharsis from cellist Oliver Coates, think Arthur Russell doing drone metal with Fennesz, and you’re not far off Coates’ capacity for tear-jerking genius here.
