French chanteuse Mireille Mathieu is classically known for her illustrious French crooning during the '60s and '70s. In the early '60s, French pop vocalist Johnny Hallyday's manager Johnny Stark noticed Mathieu's enchanting vocalic beauty and later built her into her own star with the classic urchin hairdo and loud, vibrant costumes. She was quickly hailed as the next Edith Piaf and her 1965 performance run at the Paris Olympia sparked her recording relationship with Barclay Records. Singles such as "Mon Credo," "C'est Ton Nom," and "Qu'elle Est Belle" made Mathieu an international star in Europe while achieving mild success in the Americas, but her cover of Englebert Humperdinck's "The Last Waltz" was an impressive French interpretation that made her impact charts in Britain.

Nosound is an Italian Progressive band which started in 2002. "The Northern Religion Of Things" is an album of radical re-interpretations of Nosound tracks. "The Northern Religion Of Things" was recorded during the rehearsal process for a unique one-off "Nosound solo" gig that Giancarlo performed in London in August 2010. For this intimate gig, Giancarlo created new arrangements for several classic Nosound tracks using a live setup that enabled him to play keyboards and/or acoustic guitar while also singing and recreating sounds and effects from the original studio albums. No backing tracks were used, only triggered loops and played instruments.

Known for his solo hits in the 1980s as well as his hits with the band Smokie in the '70s, Chris Norman is a British soft rock singer with an international following whose career spans several decades. Breathe Me In is the solo album by Chris Norman, released in 2001.

Malcolm McLaren has never been a musician, at least never in any accepted sense of the word. Rather, he's a self-promoter. Even when he was managing the Sex Pistols, most of his press conferences concentrated on what a great scam he had come up with, not the music itself. On his own records, he's been supported by first-rate musicians who manage to hide his half-baked concepts. On Paris, he has nothing to hide behind – the musicians fade into the background, since the record is essentially a love letter to Paris.

When drummer Chad Wackerman recorded The View for Germany's CMP label in 1993, real fusion wasn't as plentiful as it had been in the 1970s. Many A&R people seemed to want either formulaic smooth jazz/NAC artists or hard bop-oriented "Young Lions" in Armani suites – if they weren't looking for the next Kenny G, they were looking for the next Wynton Marsalis. Nonetheless, worthwhile fusion was still being recorded – it just wasn't as plentiful as it once was. The phrase "worthwhile fusion" easily describes The View, which falls short of remarkable but is a decent, respectable effort that features such noteworthy soloists as Allan Holdsworth (one of fusion's most respected guitar heroes), Jim Cox (keyboards, organ, piano), and Walt Fowler (flugelhorn, trumpet).

When, in early 1970, legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel ventured up to Wolverhampton’s Lafayette club to do a gig, he came upon two guys who called themselves Medicine Head, the uniquely configured duo of John Fiddler and Peter Hope-Evans. So impressed was Peel that he signed Medicine Head to his label, Dandelion Records and later that year released “New Bottles, Old Medicine” the 1st of three studio albums that Medicine Head would release on the revered label. The walrus-moustached Fiddler would simultaneously sing, play guitar and operate a bass drum and hi-hat cymbal with his foot, augmented by the equally hirsute Hope-Evans on harmonica, jaws harp, mouth bow and strange concoctions of percussion.

For over two decades, pianist Joey Calderazzo has been unassumingly, yet assuredly, impressing listeners with his informed and refined playing. Using elements of style from his musical heroes as a springboard, the pianist has developed his own take on the tradition, which he happily shares on his new recording, Joey Calderazzo Trio Live, recorded during a performance at Daly Jazz in Missoula, Montana.

These four discs offer completely unreleased performances by the Weather Report lineup of keyboardist Joe Zawinul, saxophonist Wayne Shorter, bassist Jaco Pastorius, drummer Peter Erskine, and a bit later, percussionist Bobby Thomas, Jr. It was compiled for release by Erskine (whose historical essay and annotated track notes are fantastic) and Tony Zawinul, Joe's son. These are mostly soundboard cassettes made by WR's longtime live sound engineer Brian Risner, with choice audience tapes and commercial mobile rig selections mixed in. While it (mostly) sounds like an excellent bootleg, the sound here is remarkable given the root sources. Similar to 2002's Live and Unreleased, the material is not arranged chronologically.
