Kuhn is a jazz pianist whose recordings may have been out of the jazz mainstream for most of the five decades his career has spanned, but it hardly matters. Kuhn's style is signature, though his explorations have taken him to many different terrains in the world of jazz, from knotty post-bop to pointillism and modalism and through the nefarious world of 20th century vanguard composition to the place where listeners find him now: the place of a supreme and unabashed lyricism that is as sophisticated and forward-looking as it is historical and inclusive.

Palle Danielsson on bass is powerful and melodic, a valuable reference within the themes written by the pianist with rare elegance given by drummer Martin France. Raven issue 14th full-length studio album Metal City on September 18th, 2020 through Steamhammer / SPV. The outing marks the first Raven studio album to feature Fear Factory drummer Mike Heller, who replaced Joe Hasselvander in 2017. Frontman John Gallagher commented: “Our initial goal was just to raise the bar once more. We did a good job on ExtermiNation [2015] and decided we just wanted more of everything next time. However, things changed once we got Mike on board. Attitude and tempos got revved up a lot! Mike is a ball of energy. He has a good ear and is a big fan of the early albums, especially the crazy feel. He’s kicked us into a higher gear where we feel that we can play anything and everything we write with no restrictions.” Metal City was recorded at Michael Wagner’s WireWorld Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Mixing and mastering was handled by Chris “Zeuss” Harris.

Paul Carrack, the hugely respected singer-songwriter who is the voice of many of the landmark British pop songs of the past 40 years, released a stunning new album, Soul Shadows, on January 15, 2016. The record sees him at the absolute peak of his powers as a vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Paul Carrack surely deserves the latter-day title of the hardest-working man in showbusiness.

Nelson Rangell has primarily played pop-jazz throughout his career, although he did a credible job playing some soulful alto with the straight-ahead GRP All-Star Big Band. The records he cut for GRP in the early '90s made him into a popular contemporary jazz attraction in the David Sanborn tradition.

Torga Ostera is a promising new band from central Portugal that consists of João Francisco on vocals and guitar, Jorge Marinheiro on keyboards, Eurico Moleirinho on bass and Renato Dias on drums. They describe themselves as a Space Rock-inspired band and they sure produce the goods with a blend of music that's fashioned around late-sixties and seventies British psychedelic rock and Portuguese music. The sound of their debut album is primarily based on mellow Pink Floyd inspired grooves, not unlike some of the works of ELOY and Novalis, but also modern bands like Negative Zone and Airbag, although unlike those bands, lyrics are in the band's mother tongue, where comparisons might be draw with the work of fellow Portuguese artists like Petrus Castrus, Jorge Palma or the more recent Toranja.

The Messenger is a project that reflects not only the guitarist’s virtuosity on his instrument, but also his impressive compositional skills—writing all but two tracks. Best described simply as a “Kevin Eubanks” recording—without specific categorization—as his intent with The Messenger is to communicate the breadth of his artistic influences.

Olivia Ruiz rose to fame in 2001 as a contestant on the first edition of the TV reality show Star Academy, the French equivalent of American Idol. Subsequently, Ruiz exploited her popularity to secure a record deal and pursue a solo career. Certainly, her Star Academy background has been both a curse and a blessing for Ruiz. On the one hand it allowed her to become a recording artist; on the other it made her immediately suspicious to critics and music lovers, because of the dubious musical merits of such shows. It is thus an unexpected and pleasant surprise to realize than in her solo albums Ruiz is firmly bent in disowning the Star Academy stigma, enthusiastically embracing instead the French chanson genre. More surprising still is the fact that she actually fully succeeded in her goals with the release of her second album, La Femme Chocolat. A marked improvement, both artistically and commercially, over her 2003 debut, J'aime Pas l'Amour, La Femme Chocolat sold over a million copies and turned Ruiz into one of the best-paid French female singers of her generation.

Randy Crawford's and Joe Sample's musical paths have been intertwined for 36 years; they began with his keyboard work on her debut album Everything Must Change in 1976. She returned the favor a couple of years later with her vocal on the Crusaders' 1978 smash "Street Life." The pair have worked together intermittently since then, but only formally recorded as a dual entity on 2007's Feeling Good, a collection of (mostly) jazz tunes and standards. They followed it with No Regrets in 2008, a collection of blues, soul, and pop tunes. Both albums were highly regarded critically. Sample's piano was aided by drummer Steve Gadd and bassist Christian McBride. Live was recorded on various European stages between October and December of 2008, immediately prior to and just after the release of No Regrets.
