Panta Rhei were an jazz rock and soul group from then East Berlin formed in 1971 by Herbert Dreilich, Henning Protzmann and Ulrich Swillms. The musicians played together for a while while playing jazz oriented music before there came to be a formal group which would eventually incorporate lyrics by poet Jens Gerlach or Dreilich, which were political in different degrees. By 1975, Veronika Fischer, singer of the band, started a solo career and other line-up changes occured which led to conceptual differences and eventual dissolvement of the band. In later years compilations of the material in their active years were released to accompany their one self-titled album that was released in 1973.

On their studio first outing in three years, Germany's seemingly eternal Scorpions keep the sound a perfect balance between nu metal guitar crunch and '80s heavy metal melodies. On his latest album, Nkolo, Congolese singer Lokua Kanza draws on sounds from his father s village and his native Lingala tongue to give the African Diaspora a musical sense of place. Listening to the album is an unabashedly uplifting experience the theme of love is ever-present. The title track Nkolo translates as God and the album is unashamedly spiritual. A devout Christian, Kanza cut his musical teeth aged eight singing in the church in Kinshasha. Kanza, who now lives mainly in Brazil, was known as the Brazilian from an early age.

Derek Sherinian is unquestionably one of the most significant keyboard players of the modern era. His far ranging talents have been much in evidence through the music of Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Black Country Communion and current band Sons Of Apollo. Sherinian has also released a series of acclaimed solo albums over the last two decades. The latest of these is 'The Phoenix', his first since 2011's 'Oceana'. For this album, he once again works alongside collaborator and mentor Simon Phillips, who is a crucial part of the process. Though Les Rallizes Denudes, also known as Hadaka no Rallizes, were one of the earliest and most revolutionary Japanese psychedelic rock bands, and have existed off and on through four decades, they are also one of the most obscure, barely known even in their native country. This cult of noise terrorists shrouded themselves in mystery, seldom touring and releasing very few records, usually with no discernible label. Their sound presages the later psychedelic experimental noise of Fushitsusha, High Rise, and others in the current crop more than any other Japanese psychedelic group from the late '60s…

Drummer/composer Bobby Previte released some of his best albums on the Gramavision label, including Claude's Late Morning, Music of the Moscow Circus, and 1988's Pushing the Envelope. While his work behind the kit on both solo and guest dates has always been first-class, the breadth of his writing comes as a pleasant surprise; the six compositions here certainly shore up the claim. And variety comes with substance as Previte wends from the grand minimalism of "Open World" to the expanse and intensity of "Pushing the Envelope."
