Recorded with an exemplary supporting cast featuring pianist Don Blackman, guitarist Eric Gale, and saxophonist Michael Brecker, Sinbad explores the extremes of Weldon Irvine's music, juxtaposing several of the keyboardist's funkiest, most energetic grooves to date alongside mellow, contemplative performances of uncommon intricacy and beauty. Inspired in both sound and spirit by the soul-searching Motown efforts of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, complete with covers of their respective "What's Going On" and "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing," Sinbad contrasts the elegant soul-jazz contours and luminous, horn-driven arrangements of the title cut and "Do Something for Yourself" alongside the nuances and soft pastels of "I Love You" and "Music Is the Key." The resiliency of Irvine's vision and the vibrant performances of his collaborators nevertheless create a kind of yin-yang dynamic that enables the album's divided soul to operate in harmony.

Issued by underground imprint RCA Neon in mid-1971, the Shape Of The Rain album “Riley Riley Wood & Waggett” sold poorly at the time despite glowing reviews from the British music weeklies. A surging collision of Beatlesesque writing and harmonies and Byrds-like jingle-jangle guitars, sadly it would take another couple of decades before the LP was finally disinterred by a new generation of record collectors.

Spanning his first hit "Make Believe" to early-'80s singles such as "Tight Fittin' Jeans," Conway Twitty's 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection does a decent job of presenting his career highlights in a dozen songs. "Hello Darlin'," "You've Never Been This Far Before," and "After the Fire Is Gone" are some of the other highlights from this somewhat abbreviated collection; The #1s Collection provides a far deeper look into Twitty's body of work, but this album will probably satisfy most casual fans.

The Best of Don Pullen collects nine highlights from Don Pullen's 11 years with Blue Note. Spanning the late '80s and early '90s, the compilation includes tracks culled from the pianist's time with the George Adams Quartet, his trio albums (one with Gary Peacock, one with Tony Williams) and cuts he recorded with his group the African-Brazilian Connection. While his original recordings remain the best way to understand his achievements, this collection is a good introduction to his style for the curious, featuring such titles as "Song from the Old Country," "New Beginnings," "Jana's Delight," "Indio Gitano," "Reservation Blues," "El Matador" and "Andre's Ups and Downs."

Legendary Western New York blues man gives another stellar roots/blues release. Willie May appears to have a deep well of inspiration as he remains one of the more prolific, productive song writers on the independent recording artist scene. Maiuke offers a dozen songs featuring the Ukulele as the primary instrument. May is known for his versatile approach, this will only further that narrative. Willie May has performed in basements, barns, garages, street corners, speak-easies, house trailers, preschool, high school, colleges, radio, television, bars, county fairs, carnivals, grocery stores, a pigeon coop, concert halls, outdoor festival arenas, and inside Attica prison.

Taurus is the name used by the talented Chilean multi-instrumentalist Claudio Momberg who after a successful career in bands as Seti, Caamora and Subterra released four excellent albums edited by Mylodon Records. Like Mike Oldfield and Vangelis before him, Claudio plays all the instruments, but to make it even more impressive, also produced all the albums. It was not a surprise to discover that his music was fluid and elegant with a unique style product of his dexterity with all the instruments. Recommended for fans of orchestral and instrumental Prog.

Alongside Wet Wet Wet, Texas, and Deacon Blue, blue-eyed soul pop siblings Hue & Cry were one of the most successful acts to emerge from the Scottish music scene that dominated the charts in the late '80s. The duo from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire decided to start making music together in 1983, when Pat Kane was about to graduate from university and brother Greg was still at school. After releasing their first single, "Here Comes Everybody," through the small Glasgow label Stampede in 1984, they signed to Virgin Records subsidiary Circa.

Morgan Davis is an award-winning Canadian blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He was born and spent his childhood in Detroit, Michigan, before relocating to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1968. He moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2001. His song "Why'd You Lie" was a hit for Colin James and featured on James' 1988 debut album. "Reefer Smokin' Man" was described as a "blues cult classic". Davis' principal major label release, Morgan Davis, on Stony Plain Records, was produced by Colin Linden. Davis was the recipient of multiple awards, including a Juno Award, for his 2003 release, Painkiller, on Electro-Fi Records.
