Long before Keith Emerson was a known name for his involvement with The Nice and with Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), young Keith Merson had a Jazz Trio. According to him, seeing himself as a Jazz musician meant that he was "cool", but still unable to get a girlfriend though. The year is 1963 and the trio reharses at his mother's council house living room in Woking. They manage to get the money to record and cut 4 acetates, one was given to each member of the band and there was one spare copy used to try to get gigs. Fast forward to 2015 and this 4th. copy shows up at a boot sale. Upon hearing about the discovery, Keith Emerson agreed upon the release of the recordings. These recordings have never been for sale on CD before and have been lovingly restored. This release has the full approval of Keith Emerson.

Don Byron is the quintessential clarinetist of the modern mainstream, and this is a tolerably good example of his work as an improvisor, composer, and bandleader. Byron swings and grooves well in a conventional sense, yet his slippery phrasing runs clear of rhythmic cliché. His tone is clear and pure, as well, but what's even more important than his considerable instrumental skill is the manifest originality and inspiration that drives his art.

Last production staged by Patrice Chéreau, this Elektra will remain as the main and most striking lyrical event of these last years in Aix-en-Provence. This production is leaded by three amazing singers: the German soprano Evelyn Herlitzius gave a tremendous, never-to-be-forgotten account of the title role, Waltraud Meier portrays a human and chilling Clytemnestra and Adrianne Pieczonka is a fantastic Chrysothemis. Everyone's loneliness and intimate struggles are Patrice Chéreau's favorites theatrical themes. With Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting the Orchestre de Paris, this production of Elektra becomes an unforgettable experience.

This set reissues the 6-LP box set from 1984 and was mastered off the original archive tapes. Discs are packaged in plain white sleeves inside a printed, letter-pressed and embossed box along with an insert and 12-page booklet. Tektra (1980-82) is a cybernetic project, an electro-acoustic composition which, as much as possible, originates from the interaction between electronic circuitry and processes carefully developed by the composer.

Patti’s debut for CTI, END OF A RAINBOW was conceived after she played demos of songs she’d written (but originally never planned to record) for arranger Bill Eaton who in turn played them for his production partner percussionist Ralph MacDonald. After MacDonald let Creed Taylor hear some of the songs, Patti began recording what would become her much-acclaimed debut set for the label which featured eight original Austin compositions including the U.S. R&B charted single, ‘Say You Love Me’ and ‘Sweet Sadie The Savior’ (also recorded by Blood, Sweat & Tears). The 1976 LP (with some of New York’s top session players) became a U.S. Top 40 jazz charted album and is included in its entirety on this SoulMusic Records’ compilation drawn from Patti’s four years with CTI.

Your eyes/ears do not deceive you: Leaves of Grass features arch American rockstar Iggy Pop reading poems from Walt Whitman’s classic collection of the same name, set to music by Robert Lippok and Bernd Jetstram’s Tarwater, accompanied by Raster-Noton co-founder Carsten Nicolai, a.k.a. Alva Noto.

Another obscurity originally released on the Elkar label, Haizea were a five-piece from the Basque area of Spain. A sound that could best be described as psychedelic electric folk, the instrumentation consists of guitar (sometimes two), bass, drums, flute, assorted percussive things, and the captivating voice of Amaia Zubiria. "Hontz Gaua" was their second album. Musically, a few parallels could be drawn with the late sixties San Francisco sound, yet tempered with flavor of local folk music and given an overall better sense of direction. Instrumentation is primarily acoustic based, many tracks are sans drums, with long moody stretches of flute and shimmering electric guitar Popol Vuh's style…

On his fourth full-length release, Preparations, Glitch-hop king Guillermo Scott Herren, better known as Prefuse 73, shows that emigrating to Barcelona has not dissociated him from his fountain of sonic inspiration. The former Atlanta, Georgia, phenom continues to blaze a trail for Prefuse that stands distinct from his other projects (Savath & Savalas, Delarosa & Asora, etc.). With contributions from Tobias Lilja, Battles drummer John Stanier, and Secret Machines offshoot School of Seven Bells, Herren crafts a multi-hued, constantly shifting prism of electronic sound that's always propulsive and visceral, but frequently gorgeous in its juxtaposition of atmosphere and angularity. The album was released both on its own and with a bonus disc, as Preparations & Interregnums.
