Perhaps it was inevitable that Bob Dylan would change direction at the end of the '70s, since he had dabbled in everything from full-on repudiation of his legacy to a quiet embrace of it, to dipping his toe into pure showmanship. Nobody really could have expected that he would turn to Christianity on Slow Train Coming, embracing a born-again philosophy with enthusiasm. He has no problem in believing in a vengeful god – you gotta serve somebody, after all – and this is pure brimstone and fire throughout the record, even on such lovely testimonials as "I Believe in You." The unexpected side effect of his conversion is that it gave Dylan a focus he hadn't had since Blood on the Tracks, and his concentration carries over to the music, which is lean and direct in a way that he hadn't been since, well, Blood on the Tracks.

In Search of the Miraculous is an album by composer John Zorn released as a part of Tzadik's Archival series in 2010. Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars. For Zorn as a composer, the writing is an important step in the development of his file card music. Normally, one thinks of pearl-divers as of people from the Southern seas, typically the Tropical ones. Certainly, the ice-cold waters of the polar and subpolar seas are not those most immediately associated with pearl-fishing. And, indeed, the “pearls from the Northern Seas” represented in this Da Vinci Classics album are intangible and invisible, as they represent the domain of the audible.

He was as eminent in composing as in playing extemporanously. Among the musicians who were active in the first half of the seventeenth century, Girolamo Frescobaldi (Ferrara, 1583 – Rome, 1643) stands out not only as an organist whose virtuosity and technical skill were superlative and incomparable, but also as a formidable musician who was able to interpret the artistic stirrings in the musical language of his time and to incorporate them, in an effective and significant way, into his vast production for keyboard instruments.

Jacob van Eyck (around 1590 – 1657) is one of the most important musicians of the 17th century in the Netherlands. After making a name for himself as a carillonneur with his improvements to several carillons in the Netherlands, he was put in charge of the bells of all parish churches and the town hall in Utrecht in 1628 and was given the title "Director of the Bell Works". His recorder playing, which he showed in public parks and in the Utrecht churchyard, has come down to us in several prints. The "FLUYTEN LUST-HOF" (printed 1649/1654) is to this day the most extensive collection in European music history with works for a recorder solo. In addition to some free forms, this is a collection of variations on song and dance melodies that were well known at the time, which owe their special status to van Eyck's virtuoso art of improvisation. The "FLUYTEN LUST-HOF" includes almost 150 works.

Threshold Archives began as a project by Peter Christopherson in 2006. At the time, Peter was involved in many projects that consumed much of his time including Soisong, a re-launched Throbbing Gristle, and The Threshold HouseBoys Choir, in addition to assembling the final Coil album, The New Backwards, and the massive Colour Sound Oblivion box. With the passage of time, intercontinental moves, and record label bankruptcies, many master recordings and artworks were lost, damaged, or degrading.
