In 1984 Frank Zappa released an album titled Francesco Zappa, unknowingly becoming the first contemporary interpreter of the work of this unknown Milanese author, and effectively marking the beginning of his rediscovery. It was an incredible fate that of Francesco Zappa who, after a long life of success and honors in the Dutch and German courts, died in poverty and even experienced a kind of "damnatio memoriae" due to the contempt shown to him by Leopold Mozart.

Twelfth title of our series entirely dedicated to the solo cello in the XVIIIth century, combined with the precedents with the sonatas by Lanzetti, Janson, Duport and Spourni, this collection investigates the fascinating path of the Neapolitan cello school in France and, in parallel, the developments of the musical styles towards the birth of new European music in Classicism. From the bewitching, hypnotic atmospheres of the French Arias to the lively theatricality of the Italian musical imagination, throughout the sixty years preceding the Rvolution the cello was certainly one of the most authentic protagonists.

In collaboration with GDM and Universal Music Publishing Italia, a remastered and expanded soundtrack release from Quartet Records of Franco Micalizzi's score to the 1979 sci-fi-horror film "STRIDULUM" (aka "THE VISITOR") directed by Giulio Paradisi (aka Michael J. Paradise).
The soundtrack album was released by RCA in 1979 and was reissued on CD by Digitmovies in 2011 with a good amount of previously unreleased tracks. For this new and remastered edition, Quartet Records has located the original master tapes that contain not only more material and unreleased film versions but also three versions of the song “Sadness Theme” (performed by a studio singer in New York and composed by Micalizzi) that was originally written for the main titles but ultimately not used. This Quartet Records release was produced under the supervision of composer Franco Micalizzi.

Emerging from Liverpool, England in 1960, the Beatles were a seminal British group that evolved from rock/pop origins into pioneers of musical experimentation. The band solidified its iconic lineup in 1962, featuring John Lennon (vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica, keyboards, percussion), Paul McCartney (vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards, percussion), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals, keyboards), and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals, percussion) after signing a recording contract with EMI. This followed a brief period with Stuart Sutcliffe (bass, 1960-61) and Pete Best (drums, 1960-62).

Mark Knopfler is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose distinctive blend of rock, country, blues, and other roots traditions bears a sonic stamp all his own. One of the most celebrated British guitar heroes to emerge in the late 1970s and '80s, he first rose to fame as the leader of Dire Straits, where his songwriting and incisive guitar work played a decisive role in making them an international success story. Landing major chart hits on both sides of the Atlantic with songs like 1978's "Sultans of Swing" and 1985's "Money for Nothing" (the latter anchoring their landmark 1985 album Brothers in Arms), Knopfler's dry wit and smooth, earthy guitar style helped Dire Straits cut a unique throughline that somehow traversed both the more traditional pub rock style of the '70s and the excess of the MTV era.

"Let's Face the Music and Dance" is a song published in 1936 by Irving Berlin for the film Follow the Fleet, where it was introduced by Fred Astaire and featured in a celebrated dance duet with Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The jazz song has also been covered by various artists years following its release, including Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Todd Gordon and others.

The Rare Mod Series has been one of the most enduring Acid Jazz curated compilations of recent years, uncovering a host of lost classics that capture the sound of the original Mod scene of the 1960s. Swagger chronicles the in-between period that came after the initial, wildly eclectic Tim Bowness / Steven Wilson studio experiments of 1987 and 1988, and prior to No-Man signing its first record deal in 1991. It mostly captures the band making a propulsive Electro-Rock music and forging a fresh and more flamboyant identity courtesy of new recruit, virtuoso violinist Ben Coleman. Featuring Steven Wilson’s guitar playing to the fore and Tim Bowness’s ‘before voice’, the music is notably more aggressive than what was created either side of it and, though it occasionally hints at the smoother Loveblows & Lovecries to come and the fragility of what preceded it, it has a unique sound that separates it from everything else the band has ever done.
