Widely regarded as one of today's most important composers of orchestral music, Kalevi Aho has written fifteen symphonies to date, but also twenty concertos. Indeed, he himself describes his on-going series of concertos for each of the main instruments in the Romantic symphony orchestra as 'one of the most important and most ambitious of my composition projects'. One of the latest additions to this series is the Horn Concerto, composed for the Finnish horn-player Annu Salminen who also performs it on the present recording.

I Told You I Was Trouble: Live in London is a live concert video by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on DVD and Blu-ray on 5 November 2007 by Island Records. It was filmed on 29 May 2007 at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. On 11 December 2015, the album was released on vinyl as part of an eight-disc, limited-edition vinyl box set titled The Collection.

Six Divertimenti Hob.IV:6-11, a chamber music masterpiece by F.J.Haydn, is performed by three musicians who are also active in leading orchestras in the field of early music, such as Bach Collegium Japan and Orchestra Libera Classica. The work packs the compositional techniques and originality developed in the service of the Esterházy family into small chamber pieces, including the popular flute. This is a masterful performance that greatly enhances the appeal of this collection of pieces, which would have delighted even the most discerning connoisseurs of the time.

Fred Frith is a multi-instrumentalist and a shrewd outsider who walks the line between rock and jazz, improvisation and composition, and hereby presents a breathtaking live double CD with his long-time Bay Area trio. CD1 documents an inspiring trio concert by these extraordinarily creative musicians at Stadthalle Köln as part of Week- End Fest 2019. CD2 features the trio with guests Lotte Anker and Susana Santos Silva. Both musicians have a long history with the trio – Lotte Anker has played with the trio in San Francisco and New York, and Susana Santos Silva joined them for performances in Brazil in 2018, while both have joined the trio to tour the U.S. East Coast and Europe in 2019. Lotte Anker and Susana Santos Silva fire up the trio. And in turn the trio’s inspiration has an effect on Lotte and Susana which feeds back into the group. This creates a unique collective sound that delivers an infectious live energy.

Thwaites imbues the music with an aptly intimate poetry. Crucially, she knows how to sing a tune, as the abundance of attractive melodies, garlanded with Grainger’s rich pianistic dressing, gives her ample opportunity to demonstrate.

Ce CD de l'excellent ensemble Romanesque permet de découvrir deux facettes de son art: des chansons profanes, les unes en français et les autres en allemand, ce qui leur donne immédiatement des couleurs différentes, plus poétiques d'un côté, plus grivoises de l'autre. Interprétation très vivante de la soprano Kathelijne Van Laethem, rejointe occasionnellement par la basse Stephan Mc Leod.

Continue and you will find yourself in a world where chance encounters of mildew-encrusted adult magazines, carefully stashed away in the shrubs are nothing short of erotic mysteries reminiscent of ancient fertility cults.

The 2013 compilation Verve Ultimate Cool: George Benson brings together tracks recorded by the influential jazz guitarist in the '60s and '70s. These are largely groove-oriented cuts that showcase Benson's knack for R&B-influenced jazz improvisation. Here we get such songs as his live version of "Breezin'," a supremely funky "Shape of Things to Come," "Billie's Bounce," and more. Ultimately, Verve Ultimate Cool works as a nice single-disc overview of Benson's soul-jazz period.

When Tim Berne recorded with Snakeoil for ECM in 2012, it marked the debut of a new working band and his first studio album in a decade. With Oscar Noriega on clarinets, pianist Matt Mitchell, and drummer Ches Smith, Berne was able to extend the horizons in his compositions. While conversational intrigue, fiery improvisation, knotty counterpoint, and wildly varying dynamics had long been part of his aesthetic, they found a fluid yet immediate language on 2013's Shadow Man.

Francis Poulenc was the best-known composer of the iconoclastic group Les Six, and his reputation for blending sophistication and flippant humor in his songs and concert music made him something of an enfant terrible. Yet the deaths of several close friends and a visit to the Black Madonna of Rocamadour in 1936 brought about soul-searching and a fresh commitment to the Catholicism of his youth.

Although she didn’t win when she appeared on the second season of the French Popstars television show in 2002, Chimène Badi turned her appearances on the show into a pop career, and has released a concert album and four studio albums since, including this set, Le Miroir, her second studio outing, released in 2006.

For his first album on Deutsche Grammophon, Joe Hisaishi, the revered Japanese composer whose work has become synonymous with the magical Studio Ghibli animations of director Hayao Miyazaki has created an exciting series of symphonic arrangements of his original soundtracks for such Ghibli classics as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and My neighbor Totoro. Fittingly titled A Symphonic Celebration, it presents state-of-the-art recordings of his extraordinary work for this much-loved artistic force in animated movie-making. Recorded in London by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the composer, its tracks are newly arranged by Hisaishi for symphony orchestra and features Grace Davidson, Avi Avital, Bach Choir and Stephen Morris.
