If ever there were a record that both fit perfectly and stood outside the CTI Records' stable sound, it is Sugar by Stanley Turrentine. Turrentine, a veteran of the soul-jazz scene since the '50s, was accompanied by a who's who of groove players, including guitarist George Benson, Lonnie Liston Smith on electric piano, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, bassist Ron Carter, organist Butch Cornell, and drummer Billy Kaye, among others. The title track is a deep soul blues workout with a swinging backbeat and the rhythm section fluidly streaming through fours and eights as Benson, Hubbard, and Turrentine begin slowly and crank up the heat, making the pace and stride of the cut simmer then pop - especially in Hubbard's solo. This is truly midnight blue, and the party's at the point of getting really serious or about to break up…

Blues-rock with a distinct Texas edge is Mark May's thing. His playing recalls various Texas legends like Johnny Winter and Albert Collins, while always skirting the rock speed-demon side of the musical equation. This outing finds him surrounded by his regular rhythm section of Dan Cooper on bass, Travis Doyle on organ and Greg Grubbs on drums. May shares guitar soloing duties throughout the album with Alan Haynes ("Don't Give Up"), Billy Wells ("Mercury Blues") and Larry McCray (an impassioned Albert Collins duel on their mentor's "The Lights Are On, But Nobody's Home"), producing fireworks with every trill and bent note. Also noteworthy are several tracks featuring the Memphis Horns, who shine brightly on "Icehouse Special" and the soul ballad "Took Me By Surprise." When May keeps his playing roped in and restrained, the musical results are well worth a second listen.

Go is the debut studio album by Icelandic musician Jónsi, frontman of the Post-Rock band Sigur Rós. The album was released on 5 April 2010, through XL Recordings, as reported by a downloadable track from the official site. The album features predominantly acoustic music and string arrangements from composer Nico Muhly. The album was co-produced by Alex Somers, Peter Katis and Jónsi himself, during summer 2009, in Reykjavík and Connecticut.

UZEB were a band from Quebec, formed in 1976 in Drummondville. They moved to Montreal and through most part of their career they worked as a guitar/bass/drums trio with the occasional addition of a keyboard player.''Fast emotion'', released in 1983,shows a band, who wants to offer straight and pleasant jazz/fusion rock.The album is dominated by the groovy bass lines of Alain Caron, the extended guitar solos and the heavy use of synth guitar by Michel Cusson and the somewhat supported role of drummer Paul Brochu.

Two very different sessions are combined on this two-LP set. Trumpeter Lester Bowie and a quintet also including Ari Brown on tenor and soprano, pianist Art Matthews, bassist Fred Williams, and drummer Phillip Wilson, are often used to accompany the soulful and gospel-oriented vocals of Fontella Bass and David Peaston (in addition to taking colorful solos). The 12-minute "For Louie" and a suite that is dominated by an emotional version of "Everything Must Change" are highlights; also memorable is a brief version of Albert Ayler's "Ghosts." The second album is quite a bit different, a set of unaccompanied trumpet solos by Bowie that are often quite humorous.

Guitarist Will Bernard continues to crank out the knotty and cerebral funk jams on 2007's Party Hats. Falling somewhere between the low-key '60s soul trio vibe of Medeski, Martin & Wood and the uptempo, fiery swagger of Maceo Parker, Party Hats is a soulful, good-time album that should please fans of both blues-oriented funk and post-bop improvisation. Joining Bernard here is a stellar backing ensemble of longtime cohorts, including tenor saxophonist Peter Apfelbaum, Hammond organist Wil Blades, drummers Jan Jackson and Paul Spina, and others.

Branded is the twelfth album by the German hard rock band Bonfire. It was released in 2011 by LZ Records and Sony Music. This is the first full album to be released with Bonfire's original drummer, Dominik Huelshorst, back behind the drum kit for the band. Two extra tracks were included, acoustic versions of "I Need You" (from the Strike Ten album) and "Rivers Of Glory" (from the Knock Out album) that were recorded in 2011 with Claus Lessmann and Hans Ziller playing acoustic guitars and Chiara Ziller (Hans' daughter) on piano.

Steve N Seagulls are, basically, a YouTube lark gone horribly, horribly wrong. In 2014 a bunch of Finnish musicians played a version of AC/DC's Thunderstruck in their barnyard. The video got millions of views in weeks and landed the band on the websites and magazine pages of elite metal media.Since the last album, the band have played 175 shows & toured in 20 countries.
