"Roger McGuinn" is the 1st full-length solo album by Roger McGuinn, released in 1973. This album was released after The Byrds' 1973 reunion album, on which all five founding members of the group participated in the sessions. McGuinn himself has stated that any outtakes left over from those sessions appeared here, but this was later proven to be false with the discovery of several alternate takes and at least one outtake in late 2009. The majority of the songs on the album were co-written with Jacques Levy, who collaborated with McGuinn on the abandoned country-rock musical Gene Tryp in 1968-1969 (most of the resulting songs appeared on The Byrds' (Untitled) and Byrdmaniax albums) and remained his principal lyricist until 1977.

Brian McKnight has become the latest in a series of after-hours-style R&B heroes, matinee idols with decent voices who parlay suggestiveness, romantic lyrics, and sex appeal into sizable popularity among female fans. McKnight's strength is his coy delivery and savvy selection of material; he never does any tune that forces him to stretch the upper or lower register, nor does he experiment much with reggae, hip-hop, or cutting-edge production.

That's not to say that the album doesn't sound contemporary or fresh – quite the opposite. McKnight has figured out a way to make his gospel-flavored contemporary urban soul sound fresh, mainly by keeping the focus on the songs. There's nothing extraneous on Back at One: all 13 songs are given clean presentations, and he blesses them with impassioned performances. At times, the material itself is not particularly interesting, but most albums have filler; what counts is the good stuff, and there's enough of it on Back at One to make it another solid effort from McKnight.

American tenor saxophonist Tim Berne joins Umberto Petrin's piano trio for four of the nine tracks on this CD, which features tunes written by the pianist. Petrin launches a broadside in the liners, stating that "avant-garde" and "experimentalism" are no longer relevant terms, but that idea and form should hold sway…

Sam Newton Battenberg Faulkner was born in Surrey on January 11, 1985 and attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, studying the guitar and graduating at the age of 17. He played bass guitar in a Green Day cover band and, before going solo under his full name, Newton Battenburg Faulkner, he formed the funk-rock band Half a Guy with Matt Buchanan, Dave Elvy, and Nicola Crawshaw. The band released a live self-titled EP with no success and rather than play angry metal music in church halls like everyone else, they decided to play uplifting happy songs. Singing, playing guitar, writing songs, and arranging gigs eventually took their toll, and he decided to start a solo career. His first solo gigs were at London's Troubadour club and led to a publishing deal for his original songs with Peermusic UK and appearances at the South by Southwest music festival. Faulkner secured a recording deal with BMG and released a second EP, U.F.O., featuring solo material, and he appeared to have found his niche alongside such recording artists as Jack Johnson, James Morrison, and Paolo Nutini. He appeared twice at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2007, both on the acoustic stage and the Left Field stage.
