Wolfgang Valbrun carries the torch for all great soul musicians with an incredible debut album, which looks at human frailty that’s shaped by his lived experiences and perception of current affairs. Straddling the lines between soul, rock and blues, Wolfgang provides introspective insights through raw unapologetic lyrics, married with the incredible musicianship of his band.

Bobby Previte is a composer and performer whose work explores the nexus between notated and improvised music. One of the seminal figures of the 1980s New York ‘Downtown’ scene, Previte is the recipient of the 2015 Greenfield Prize for music and was a Guggenheim Foundation Fellow in 2012.

Recorded over two sessions in 1958, this album was compiled and released in 1965 by John Coltrane's former record label to capitalize on his growing fame and success. Coltrane is joined by Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Wilbur Harden on flugelhorn and trumpet, Red Garland on piano and drummer Art Taylor on one session; the other set features Jimmy Cobb on drums while bassist Paul Chambers appears on all tracks.

Nashville's Lionlimb is a psych-inflected rock outfit centering on singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Stewart Bronaugh. Originally formed in 2010, Lionlimb was shelved for several years as Bronaugh spent time working in Chicago and San Francisco before returning to Nashville in 2014. Once back in Nashville, Bronaugh resurrected Lionlimb, collaborating on new music with drummer Joshua Jaeger. This second full-length album from Lionlimb forgoes the layered production of their debut in favor of a minimal look at ensemble work. Recorded live in New York in the spring of 2017, the resulting album surprises with new instrumentation and a spacious sound that highlights the individuality of each player across these six songs about family and memory.

Einojuhani Rautavaara is recognized as one of the most notable Finnish composers after Jean Sibelius. This recording features the latest concerto works with an orchestral piece from his early Modernist period. The virtuoso Percussion Concerto Incantations features the Scottish percussion soloist Colin Currie, who is the dedicatee and première performer of this work. Currie wrote himself the virtuoso cadenza to the final movement. Rautavaara's Second Cello Concerto Towards the Horizon was written for cellist Truls Mørk and plays continuously in one 20-minute movement. Reviewing the premiere the Star Tribune noted that the composer “acknowledges a ‘taste for eternity’ and a vain of mysticsm runs through his work”.
