The award-winning early music ensemble Capella de la Torre is releasing its new recording of musical treasures from the early Baroque period in collaboration with the Bavarian Radio Choir - one of Germany's top choirs - and conductor Florian Helgath.

Two groovy Doc Severinson albums – back to back on a single SACD. "Rhapsody For Now" is kind of a cool concept album for Doc Severinsen – one that has him blowing amidst some larger suites arranged by Oliver Nelson, Harry Betts, and Tommy Newsom – each with a slightly different feel. "Doc" is a set of upbeat, jazzy ditties all arranged by Dick Hyman – with a brightly swinging feel that's a hip mix of late 60s mod and early 70s funk.

The Alban Berg Quartet was founded in 1971 and within a decade was established as one of the finest string quartets in the world. It was known for its large recorded sets of the complete quartets of many masters of the genre. The members of the quartet – which included violinists Günter Pichler, Gerhard Schulz, Kakuska, and cellist Valentin Erben, of whom Pichler, Schulz and Erben were founding members – were all faculty members of the Wiener Hochschule für Musik and also taught master classes on German chamber music regularly at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. The group won 30 major international recording awards, representing virtually every top prize of note.

The highly reputed Mouret lit up the Duchess of Maine's festivities with his Divertissements en Musique before becoming the official composer of the Comedie-Italienne in 1717, then artistic director of the Concert Spirituel in 1728. The Ensemble la Francaise invites us to discover his music's spontaneity, lightness and grace, as well as its dramatic expressivity, through his Airs a Danser from the Premier Livre (1734) and Concert de Chambre from the Second Livre (1738), along with a selection of motets that he composed for the Concert Spirituel in 1730.

In crafting the arrangements for each piece on “Serendipity,” I found inspiration in unexpected moments and chance encounters with melodies that lingered in the recesses of my mind.

Wide Open is the fourth solo album by Danish / Swedish jazz-vocalist and songwriter, Kira Martini. On this recording, Martini serves us a handful of her own compositions in a borderland between genres – a fusion of Nordic folk and jazz with notes of the warm seventies songwriter sound and mentality, inspired by the likes of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake.

Like a nurseryman, Bastien cultivates sounds that he arranges into landscapes. He transcends one sound typology by a novel marriage of timbres and discovers another by accident of execution… Related loops circulate between the pieces. Subtractive melodies emerge in Nuées d’encre and Instinct, then determine Toccata di fumo. The vocal effect of the wah-wah mute, timid and plaintive in Sanguine, becomes bestial in the final pages of Instinct. Everywhere, the meticulous attention to detail testifies to Bastien’s taste for the imperceptible: the score of Les Insectes teems with motifs which, despite their similarities, are never repeated identically. Under the microscope, sound waves are as distinct as natural elements.

"Trompe le Monde" is the fourth studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies. After the surf-pop of "Bossanova", the band returned to the abrasive sound of the band's earlier releases. Recorded in Burbank, California, Paris and London, the album was produced by Gil Norton, and was Pixies' final studio album before their subsequent break-up two years later. "Trompe le Monde" is the last album to feature founding bass guitarist Kim Deal.

"Come On Pilgrim" is the debut mini-LP release by the American alternative rock band Pixies. Produced by Gary Smith, the album was released in September 1987 by 4AD. The album showcased much of Pixies' variety and set up the beginnings of many trends in their music.
