Antonio de Cabezón, “The Spanish Bach”, was among the most important composers of his time and the first major Iberian keyboard composer. Blind from childhood he was a musician at the court of Charles the V since 1526. HR Recordings is proud to present the complete recording of his keyboard music in several volumes performed by Javier Jiménez at some of the most beautiful Spanish historical organs.

Violinist Inna Kogan and pianist Tobías Bigger bring us an exquisite program of music starting with the very famous “Old Vienna” in the Jascha Heifetz arrangement for violin and piano. “Lakodalmas OP.21b”, the Hungarian wedding dance by Leo Weiner and three “Spanish Dances” by Moritz Moszkowski follows in this program of really rare pieces. Contemporary classical composer Sophia Jani and violinist Teresa Allgaier announce their new collaborative work Six Pieces for Solo Violin on Squama Recordings. Characterized by its calmness and poise, each movement focuses on a particular technical aspect, bending the boundaries of the instrument while maintaining the illusion of simplicity.

Among the instruments that found their way into art music in the first decades of the 18th century is the horn. Usually the story of the Bohemian imperial count Franz Anton von Sporck (1662–1738) is told. He became ac- quainted with the instrument in 1680 during a visit to the court of Louis XIV (1638–1715). He sent two of his servants to France to learn how to play the instrument, after which – according to the well-established narrative – horn playing spread throughout Central Europe.

Yumiko FUKAO has released the recording of Déodat de Sévérac’s complete collection of piano works. This is the first time that a Japanese pianist records the entire collection of Sévérac’s music in Japan.

This debut album, from Germany based ensemble Conceptus, features music for tenor and ensemble by Butterworth, Warlock, Holst and Bridge, in addition to Timothy Collins’ Sea Song. Collins has composed and arranged extensively for the ensemble.

Bára Gísladóttir (b. 1989) considers sounds, instruments and ensembles as living organisms. In VAPE, Hringla and COR, the Icelandic composer and double bassist engages with the largest musical organism of all: the symphony orchestra. Inspired by death metal or techno as much as by Scelsi or Penderecki, the foreboding atmosphere of her music is cut through with irony, puns and black humour. After all, organisms themselves – especially human bodies – contain the potential for both comic excess and self-annihilation. In these three works we follow Gísladóttir’s fascination with language and coincidence; we hear an uncompromising interrogation of the body’s excesses and ailments; and, most of all, we see life, vaporous and between states, neither dark nor light.

Imants Zemzaris (born 14 April 1951) is a Latvian composer and teacher. Among his compositions are chamber and vocal music, as well as music for theatre and movies. He is also an interpreter of his own piano music

Tales of the Glens is a journey through Ireland’s Glens of Antrim, as depicted in Anthony Capparelli’s piano album of compositions by Philip Hammond. Inspired by years of immersing himself in Celtic and Scandinavian traditions, Capparelli’s collection beautifully captures the essence of this picturesque region.

The year 1940 was a dramatic one for Latvia. The country was overtaken by the Soviets, then the Nazis, then the Soviets again. The Fifth Symphony of Jānis Ivanovs (1906 83), written after the brutal winter of 1944 45, contains music that might be thought to reflect this cultural and political confusion, but he was reticent in the extreme, saying only ‘This contains everything that had accumulated over those years’.
