The Spectrum ‘97 is a two-show complete audio box set recorded live 12/2/97 + 12/3/97 at The Spectrum in Philadelphia, PA – a legendary sports and music arena that hosted Phish nine times between December 1995 and November 2003. Capturing the band at this classic venue during their Fall Tour ‘97 apex, The Spectrum ’97 celebrates a standout two-night run across 33 songs, and features a Soundcheck Bonus. The classic run of shows are mixed from the band’s multitracks and mastered. Recorded live by Paul Languedoc, mixed from multitrack by Jon Altschiller, and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.

Jonathan Jiménez comes from a family of flamenco artists. He is El Cigala’s cousin and the grandson of Araceli Vargas, a gypsy guitarist famous in the history of the flamenco guitar who performed with artists such as Manolo Caracol, La Niña de los Peines, Rafael Farina or Farruco.

The "Hamburg Sessions" offer lively tracks such as "Abi's Boogie" and "All Because Of You", with the "Bye Bye Blues" with Schroeter's piano and Breitfelder's harp playing particularly standing out. The Bielefeld sessions are quieter but still impressive, with tracks like the bass-heavy blues "Raise Your Voice". "Feel Like Going Home" impresses with van Merwyk's lap steel sounds and the relaxed Americana feeling of Jennifer and Andreas Grove.

Rattle trawls through the great composer’s impressive catalogue, piecing together excerpts from symphonies, oratorios and operas spanning a 40-year period in what the director describes as ‘a kind of greatest hits’ format.

The MPS label scored a coup when they were able to set up a recording date with the Basie orchestra. It took place on October 20th, 1969 at Universal Studios in Chicago. As agreed upon, the band brought along standards from the Basie book, and the Count fulfilled MPS head Hans Georg Brunner-Schwers wish that Basie play longer piano passages than usual; normally Basie limited himself to a short riff here and there.
