The Gregg Allman Tour is the first live album by Gregg Allman, released in 1974. It was recorded at Carnegie Hall and Capitol Theatre. It peaked at number 50 on the Billboard Pop Albums charts in 1974. It was originally released as a double LP.

Laid Back is Gregg Allman’s debut studio solo album, released in October 1973 by Capricorn Records. He developed the album as a small creative outlet wherein he would assume full control, and he co-produced the album alongside Johnny Sandlin. Laid Back was largely recorded in March 1973 at Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, Georgia, with additional recording taking place at the Record Plant in New York City.

Leonard Bernstein's otherwise harmonious relationship with the Vienna Philharmonic hit a few bumps when he proposed that they perform this string quartet transcription of Beethoven's Quartet in C-sharp Minor, op. 131. But only a few minutes into the first rehearsal, all static evaporated. One hears why: this great, idiosyncratic piece–along with the Quartet in F, op. 135–is played with startling freshness and affection.

Star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and legendary film composer John Williams have joined forces to record an album together. Featuring a wide-ranging selection of Williams’ iconic movie themes – in new adaptations he has created especially for Mutter – Across the Stars will be released on 30 August 2019. The album showcases music from Star Wars, including “Rey’s Theme” from The Force Awakens, “Yoda’s Theme” from The Empire Strikes Back, “Across the Stars (Love Theme)” from Attack of the Clones and “Princess Leia’s Theme” from A New Hope, along with a variety of other memorable pieces, such as “Sayuri’s Theme” from Memoirs of a Geisha and “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter. The music was recorded at the historic Sony Pictures Scoring Stage in April this year with The Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles under the baton of John Williams himself.

Tension in music often leads to some of the most rewarding recordings and performances – when there’s cross-talk around who should take the lead, when someone is pushing and someone else is pulling, when the band isn’t resting in the beat but subjugating it. Duke Ellington’s great 1962 trio recording, Money Jungle, featuring Max Roach and Charles Mingus, was famously tense. And that is because the point of departure for this album is traditional roots music from America, inspired in part by American-Indian heritage, plus three classic songs that are also imbued with that same spirit of unspoilt authenticity and freedom.

Accordionist Klaus Paier and cellist Asja Valcic have been making music as a duo for ten years. Their playing has kept audiences delighted and critics enthralled: "Breathtaking," said the magazine Der Spiegel; they are "a captivating match" (The Guardian). During this time the two have recorded four albums which have received numerous awards. The duo’s journey together began in 2009 with their debut album "À Deux", and since then Paier and Valcic have proceeded to make their unique accordion-plus-cello sound into a thing of wonder.

And if the storyline might not always be directly apparent from the music, Rantala has provided explanations and hilarious anecdotes in his liner notes. The sheer strength with which all this inspiration has been bubbling up becomes clear right at the beginning of the year.

Over the past few years, I've unexpectedly got a bit into astrology. Many songs on this album, and even the title, refer to it. Actually, this is something that for half of my life I disregarded as nonsense, even anti-science. However, personal experiences, encounters with special people over the years, and personal observation in this field, have made me let go of this prejudgement. I came to realize that it is a very old tradition which is rooted in centuries of observing patterns. It simply sees us humans, not as detached from the universe, but as an interconnected part of it, and puts our lives in relation to the cosmos around it. It seems that only the detached, modern and egocentric human mind is willing to see itself as this free-willed individual that can’t possibly be influenced by the time, the place, by all of the circumstances present, when it came into existence.
