Manifesto is the sixth studio album by Roxy Music, and was released in March 1979 by E.G. in the UK, Polydor in Europe and by Atco Records in the US. Following an almost four-year recording hiatus, Manifesto was Roxy Music's first studio album since 1975's Siren. The first single from Manifesto was "Trash", which barely made the UK top 40. However, the second single, the disco-tinged "Dance Away", returned the band to the top 3, beaten to no.1 for two weeks from 26 May 1979 by Blondie's "Sunday Girl". Regardless, it became one of the band's biggest hits and was also the 9th best-selling single in the UK in 1979.

At last, The Telescopes's first four EPs are compiled as Early Studio Recordings, a reissue of their studio recordings from 1989 to 1990. Not only that, but they have been remastered to achieve the deserved sound of this legendary British band leading the late '80s and early '90s shoe-gaze and melodic noise scene alongside the likes of The Jesus And Mary Chain. The Telescopes, with their leader Stephen Lawrie, recorded these EPs in the same period as their first album, Taste (1989).The band's sound is tons of guitar noise and distortion covering beautiful melodies; this music is an absolute must in order to understand all indie and underground music coming from the U.K. and worldwide afterwards.

The great thing about a solo album from someone like Bill Wyman, of the Rolling Stones, is that quality musicianship and high-profile guest appearances are all but a given. The unfortunate aspect, though, is that the Stones bassist was never known for his songwriting. In the case of Monkey Grip, the first claim holds true (with guest appearances by Dr. John, Lowell George, and Leon Russell, the album is a solid affair musically), while the issue of Wyman's songwriting ability leaves the listener pleasantly surprised.

On this recording of Boccherini’s Arie da Concerto, the Belgian ensemble Capriola di Gioia defies the stubborn stereotyping of Boccherini as the gallant master of unsurpassable but insignificant melodies. Close listening to this marvellous music reveals a genius with a profound understanding of human psychology, and a rich harmonic palette to paint the smallest affective nuances. In these arias, Boccherini is rehabilitated as a true heir of Händel, a worthy contemporary to Haydn, and an early precursor of the belcanto of Bellini.

Jacopo Peri, Medici court musician and famed tenor, was among the earliest of opera composers. “Il Zazzerino” (the blond one) was also a pioneer in the popularization of the “new style” solo song, and with the 1609 publication of his collection La varie musiche he demonstrated his versatility as a composer, creating new music for a new age.

In October 1774, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach sent Johann Nikolaus Forkel, who was slowly gathering material for a biography of J. S. Bach, a parcel of his father's music. It contained eleven "Trii," some organ pieces with a pedal part, the variations on "Vom Himmel hoch" and a covering note. "The six Clavier trios—[violin sonatas, but notice Emanuel's choice of words]—are among my departed father's best works. They still sound splendid and give me much pleasure, although they were written more than fifty years ago. Some of their slow movements ("Adagii") could not be set more lyrically even today. I beg you, as the scores are very tattered, to take good care of them.” The other five "trios" were presumably the two for flute in B minor and A major (BWV 1030) The word "trio" was a normal eighteenth century description for a three-voice piece with the second melody line taken by the keyboard right hand—“violin sonata" would imply a solo violin with harpsichord continuo.

During the early 1960s, rock and roll grew by leaps and bounds. The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and Motown and Stax Records all entered the stage, and soon nothing would be the same. But, the more things change, the more they stay the same, and much of the Top 40 retained the classic ’50s sound – from teen idols like Jimmy Clanton (“Venus In Blue Jeans”) to nascent Tex-Mex by Sunny & The Sunglows (“Talk To Me”). Eric Records’ Hard To Find 45s On CD, Volume 10: 1960-1965 documents it all, from new sounds – like the Sir Douglas Quintet’s “She’s About A Mover” (in true stereo for the first time ever!) – to the loping rockabilly of Harold Dorman’s “Mountain Of Love.”

Ferdinand Ries was Beethoven's only acknowledged pupil. A friend and biographer of Beethoven, he wrote an impressive catalogue of works, including eight symphonies and several concertos. Like Beethoven before him, Ries had delayed writing his first symphony until he felt confident enough of his experience and technique to compose a work that would bear comparison with the masterpieces of Haydn and Mozart and, in his case, Beethoven himself. During Ries' eleven years in London he composed five symphonies for the Philharmonic concerts. His Symphony in C minor, Op.80, although published second, was actually the third of his symphonies to be composed.

The always eclectic Maria Muldaur, whose previous albums have paid tribute to Shirley Temple and blues women of the '20s, takes another musical detour in this collection of songs associated with Peggy Lee. In addition to her cool, sexy, relaxed voice, Lee was arguably more talented than other vocalists from her era. As a songwriter she co-penned some of her own material, including the swinging "I'm Gonna Go Fishin'" with Duke Ellington, which features the witty double entendres that spice several other songs. Muldaur possesses a similar ability to purr ("Some Cats Know") or sizzle (an opening tour de force of "Fever" and "Black Coffee") without breaking a sweat. So this collection of 12 tracks, backed by a talented yet restrained eight-piece band, is a natural extension of her vocal strengths. The stylish, retro arrangements include vibes and big-band-styled horn charts that sound as authentic as if they were recorded in the '30s. Even though there are some finger-popping swing numbers (a zippy duet with Dan Hicks on Ted Shapiro's "Winter Weather" is especially peppy), a late-night, languid blues-jazz vibe dominates.
