This is a full-length concert performance featuring the classic line-up of YES. This incredible show was recorded during the band's '35th Anniversary World Tour' appearance at the Glastonbury Festival 2003. The YES line up for this show features the talents of: Jon Anderson: Lead Vocals, MIDI Guitar, Harp, and Acoustic Guitar; Chris Squire: Bass Guitars, Vocals; Steve Howe: Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Pedal Steel Guitar, Mandolin, and Vocals; Rick Wakeman: Keyboards and Alan White: Drums, Percussion.

The Kinks’, Muswell Hillbillies and Everybody’s In Show-Biz – Everybody’s a Star released through BMG in celebration of the 50th Anniversary. It combines two of the Kinks’ classic 1970’s albums - Muswell Hillbillies, the album the band toured in America; and helped define them as a rock band in the U.S.. And Everybody’s In Show-Biz – Everybody’s a Star; the album that was written in reflection of the tour.

Essential Heart is the only compilation that covers the group's tenure at both Epic and Capitol. All the hits of the '70s are featured on the first disc and include "Crazy on You", "Magic Man", "Barracuda" and "Straight On." The second disc includes all of their comeback material recorded in the '80s such as "What About Love?", "These Dreams", and "Nothin' at All". [Epic/Capitol/Legacy's Limited Edition 3.0 appeared in 2008 and included a bonus CD – in addition to the original, two-CD set.]

Rudolf Buchbinder, the doyen of Austrian pianists, plays Max Reger’s rarely heard, lovingly crafted transcriptions of his idol Johannes Brahms’s most beautiful lieder, about which Reger said: “In the case of such masterpieces, any embellishment and any attempt to introduce a note of brilliance would be an unheard-of act of vandalism. I mean to adopt a different approach by bringing out the vocal line and, where possible, retaining the original accompaniment in the most faithful way that I can!”

Richard Wetz (1875 — 1935) was a provincial composer in the truest sense of the word, comfortably writing music in the accepted German forms, using recognizably German/Austrian melodic material, and scoring with typically German conservatism. His Second Symphony was completed in 1919, but could have been written anytime between 1880 and the early 1930s. It sounds a lot like Bruckner, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Wagner, and the most interesting thing about it is the fact that it does not include a Scherzo, but rather has two large quick(-ish) movements surrounding a brief adagio.

The J. Geils Band were one of the most popular touring rock & roll bands in America during the '70s. Where their contemporaries were influenced by the heavy boogie of British blues-rock and the ear-splitting sonic adventures of psychedelia, the J. Geils Band were a bar band pure and simple, churning out greasy covers of obscure R&B, doo wop, and soul tunes, cutting them with a healthy dose of Stonesy swagger. While their muscular sound and the hyper jive of frontman Peter Wolf packed arenas across America, it only rarely earned them hit singles. Seth Justman, the group's main songwriter, could turn out catchy R&B-based rockers like "Give It to Me" and "Must of Got Lost," but these hits never led to stardom, primarily because the group had trouble capturing the energy of its live sound in the studio. In the early '80s, the group tempered its driving rock with some pop, and the makeover paid off with the massive hit single "Centerfold," which stayed at number one for six weeks. By the time the band prepared to record a follow-up, tensions between Justman and Wolf had grown considerably, resulting in Wolf's departure, which quickly led to the band's demise. After working for years to reach the top of the charts, the J. Geils Band couldn't stay there once they finally achieved their goal.

Hyperion's Romantic Piano Concerto series reaches its 70th album with this program of three concertos by women. The ongoing success of the series suggests that audiences are ready and waiting for wider repertoire, and pianist Danny Driver and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Rebecca Miller deliver a real find here. The Piano Concerto in C sharp minor, Op. 45, of American composer Amy Beach has been performed and recorded, but it's been in search of a recording that captures the autobiographical quality of the work, well sketched out in the booklet notes by Nigel Simeone. Essentially, Beach faced creative repression from her religious mother and to a lesser extent from her husband, who allowed her to compose, but only rarely to perform. These experiences, it may be said, poured out in this towering Brahmsian, four-movement piano concerto, which sets up an unusual quality of struggle between soloists and orchestra. It's this dynamic that's so well captured by Driver and Miller (who happen to be married to each other). Sample the opening movement, which has lacked this quality in earlier performances.

Moonspell is approaching their 30th anniversary as a band more ambitiously and stronger than ever. Hermitage – the gothic metal pioneers‘ 13th studio album – was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano at the Orgone Studios in the UK.

The music on this album gives rise to two intriguing questions. Firstly, are these concertos original Bachian creations? Secondly, should they be played on modern pianos. The two issues are in fact closely linked by the idea of transcription.

Sony Music Japan are issuing a double-disc compilation of Cyndi Lauper’s Greatest Hits. The collection features 19 tracks and 26 accompanying videos, nine of which have been unavailable on DVD anywhere in the world, and the CD chronologically collects all her Sony output from 1983 – 1995.

November sees the release of the latest, lavish archeological survey of Bob Dylan’s archive – More Blood, More Tracks – The Bootleg Series Vol. 14, devoted solely to his 1975 masterpiece, Blood On The Tracks. To celebrate this momentous event, I’m delighted to unveil this month’s free CD – Dylan: The Best Of The Bootleg Series, a unique 12-track compilation featuring a track from each instalment in the Bootleg Series and an exclusive preview of More Blood, More Tracks.
