Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1979 album by R&B and disco icon Linda Clifford. Let Me Be Your Woman is the third studio album recorded by Clifford, released on the RSO/Curtom label. The album peaked at #19 on the R&B albums chart. It also reached #26 on the Billboard 200. The album features a disco-styled cover version of "Bridge over Troubled Water", which peaked at #49 on the Hot Soul Singles chart and #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. A second single, "Don't Give It Up", also charted at #15 on the Hot Soul Singles chart. In addition, all the cuts of the album peaked at #11 on the Hot Dance/Disco chart.

Link Wray burst onto the scene in 1958 with the classic instrumental 'Rumble' that heralded the arrival of the power chord for the guitar, Wray would go on to have a very productive and influential career with Pete Townsend, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young and Jeff Beck all tipping their hats to him.

Of the major '60s soul stars, Wilson Pickett was one of the roughest and sweatiest, working up some of the decade's hottest dancefloor grooves on hits like "In the Midnight Hour," "Land of 1000 Dances," "Mustang Sally," and "Funky Broadway." Although he tends to be held in somewhat lower esteem than more versatile talents like Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin, he is often a preferred alternative of fans who like their soul on the rawer side. He also did a good deal to establish the sound of Southern soul with his early hits, which were often written and recorded with the cream of the session musicians in Memphis and Muscle Shoals.

A decade after its debut performance of the Chamber Symphony Op. 110a by Dmitri Shostakovich (after whom the group is named), The Dmitri Ensemble under Graham Ross performs the composer's String Quartets Nos. 1, 8 and 10, re-worked as thrilling "Chamber Symphonies" for string orchestra by his pupil and advocate, Rudolf Barshai.

The string quartet version is an arrangement by Haydn of his orchestral version; "the version recorded here is yet another reworking … Aware that all the reworkings had not disturbed the length and tenor of the original version, [the Juilliard Quartet] gathered four … vocal soloists … and worked out among themselves a version for string quartet and vocal quartet that incorporates the string quartet version in toto, plus as much of the oratorio version as would include its text and emotional impact".

Instead of the heros struggle for supremacy, Symphonia presents a portrait of a family, with the husband, wife and child each characterised by themes.

Formed in 1968 in Worthing, Sussex by vocalist Kieran White and bass guitarist Steve Davy, Steamhammer was augmented by guitarist Martin Pugh and later by Martin Quittenton after the band's arrival in London. Their progressive blues/rock style and original material driven by drummer Mick Rushton proved an instant hit with club-goers and festival audiences. ‘Junior’s Wailing’, a hard-hitting “rock me baby, all night long” number sold well and as a result, they became much in demand for TV and radio shows, and regularly toured Germany where they were especially popular. This compiled 4CD and DVD collection captures Steamhammer in action at concerts and on TV shows such as Germany’s legendary Beat-Club, all in superb sound quality.

Songs from a Room is the second album by Canadian musician Leonard Cohen, released in 1969. It reached No. 63 on the US Billboard Top LPs and No. 2 on the UK charts. In 2007, Songs from a Room was given a remastered reissue by Sony/BMG as part of a revamping of Cohen's back catalog. The new edition includes two bonus tracks, early versions of "Bird on a Wire" and "You Know Who I Am," which were produced by David Crosby. While he might seem an unlikely studio partner for Cohen, the results are better suited to Cohen's talents than what Johnston brought to the songs, and one wonders how the album might have turned out with Crosby at the controls. The reissue has been given a handsome book-style package with plenty of archival photos, song lyrics and new liner notes from Anthony DeCurtis.

As the post-punk dust began to settle, a particular strand of artist began applying a knowingly distant, colder aesthetic to their work. While much of the scene began to be dominated by bigger budget, commercially minded former punk and new wave acts, a darker undercurrent did survive, often more interesting, more dangerous and sexier than anything that could be heard on Top Of The Pops at the time. The first generation of the darkwave movement consisted of bands that were equally influenced by the fractured drama of Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Cure as they were by the art damaged experimentation of Cabaret Voltaire, Wire and Throbbing Gristle, always rich in Gothic spirt, societal displacement, urban isolation and sexual energy.

Early in his career, Randy Newman used to regularly puzzle over his lack of commercial success, seemingly unaware that his trademark combination of New Orleans piano and wildly unreliable narrators was hardly a sure path to the Hit Parade.
