"MELODIC VOICE is the second release with MWENDO DAWA as a trio after Ove Johansson, tenorsax, passing away. The group has a long history but still finds new expressions and the trio has found a language of its own.

Wilhelm Furtwängler Live in Paris captures the legendary conductor and the Berlin Philharmonic in a historic 1954 performance at the Théâtre de l'Opéra, radiating the intensity and spontaneity that defined Furtwängler's artistry. This remastered recording features a riveting program—Weber’s Euryanthe Overture, Brahms’ Haydn Variations, Schubert’s "Unfinished" Symphony, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5—each work imbued with the conductor’s trademark architectural grandeur and emotional depth.

Daughter of Swords' 2019 debut, Dawnbreaker, delivered excellent, deceptively simple folk music that relied heavily on the guitar and vocals of Alex Sauser-Monnig. Listeners who fell in love with it may have expected more of the same on its follow-up. The North Carolina singer-songwriter's voice is just as prevalent and essential on Alex, but overall, Sauser-Monnig reaches less for soul-stirring acoustic and more for eye-opening pop. Amelia Meath, her former Mountain Man bandmate (and Sylvan Esso frontwoman), contributes production, vocals, writing and instrumentation, and longtime friends/collaborators like Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak) and TJ Maiani (Weyes Blood) also lend a hand. "Alone Together" immediately sets the tone with a burgeoning synth and a vocal pattern not heard on Daughter of Swords' earlier work.

If it was challenging to fit Valerie June into a comfortable genre pigeonhole on her first five albums, Owls, Omens, and Oracles makes it clear that the Memphis-based singer-songwriter intends to make that task impossible. While it would be convenient to ascribe the sonic kaleidoscope of Owls to the collaborators June enlisted—most notably producer M. Ward—the truth is that this record is the logical continuation of her creative evolution. Ill-content to be "a soulful folk singer" or a "folky blues singer" or any such other combination of easy-to-grok styles, June's highly idiosyncratic take on "Americana" has made her one of the most unique presences on the scene, and Owls shows just how idiosyncratic she can be.

Shudder to Think's major-label debut, Pony Express Record, boasted a better sound/production than past releases (courtesy of producer Ted Nicely and mixer Andy Wallace), and signaled more focused songwriting on the group's part. It was by no means a sellout, because even on earlier releases the group's ambitious songwriting was in full effect.

The Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne is the orchestra of the Cologne Opera. The two institutions have enjoyed a successful partnership for many years. The orchestra's long history combines many lines of development in the city's musical life. Its roots go back to the city council music of the 15th century and the cathedral chapel. In 1827, the Cölner Concert-Gesellschaft took over its sponsorship. In 1840, it appointed Conradin Kreutzer as the first permanently paid municipal bandmaster. From 1857, the society concerts took place in a commercial and banqueting hall from the late Gothic period, the so-called Gürzenich.

Pianist & composer Gerald Clayton returns with his 3rd Blue Note album Ones & Twos featuring vibraphonist Joel Ross, flutist Elena Pinderhughes, trumpeter Marquis Hill & drummer Kendrick Scott with post-production work by Kassa Overall. The album is an experiment—an idea inspired by the art of turntablism with Clayton setting out to create a record where the A side can be played simultaneously with the B side—a nod to that moment in the club when the DJ transitions from one song to the next and you hear two separate pieces at the same time.
