It is positively spooky how consistently interesting Lindsey Buckingham's 30-year solo career has been. For a musician whose core creative philosophy seems rooted in the way art emerges from dramatic chaos, his own output—both within and without Fleetwood Mac—always manages to be immediately familiar and completely surprising. And although it's been ten years since his last proper solo album, his 2017 collaboration with Christine McVie (featuring Mick Fleetwood and John McVie) felt more like "Buckingham with guests" than the "Fleetwood Mac without Stevie Nicks" album the lineup suggested, as it leaned heavily on Buckingham's unique vocal and guitar phrasings.

The Caprice roumain, completed by Cornel Tåranu, is probably his least-known masterpiece, a work unique in the history of the violin concerto. On this disc, it is flanked by Ravel’s Tzigane and Chausson’s Poème, providing a rounded portrait of the close cultural relationship between France and Romania.

Monn schrieb mehr als 20 Sinfonien, die leider nur noch zum Teil erhalten sind.

The Piano Sonata No. 2 ("Concord") of Charles Ives has tended to overshadow its predecessor, and it's no accident that pianist Joonas Ahonen chose to record that one first. The Piano Sonata No. 1, begun in 1901, represented an underappreciated breakthrough for Ives, even if he did continue to tinker with it into the 1920s. The work encompasses the polyphonic weaving of many strands of American music that would occupy Ives for much of his mature compositional life. Although the composer described it as inspired by "Impressions, Remembrances, & Reflections of Country Farmers in Conn.[ecticut] Farmland," it might better be described as a dialogue between country and city, with Protestant hymns set against and sometimes merged with a ragtime pulse as strong as any elsewhere in Ives' music.

Frumpy was a German progressive rock/krautrock band based in Hamburg, which was active between 1970–1972 and 1990–1995. Formed after the break-up of folk rockers The City Preachers, Frumpy released four albums in 1970–1973 and achieved considerable commercial success. The German press hailed them as the best German rock band of their time and their vocalist Inga Rumpf as the "greatest individual vocal talent" of the contemporary German rock scene…

For this live album, the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales present Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps with Francis Poulenc's Les biches in remarkably vivid performances, under the direction of Thierry Fischer. The most distinctive characteristic of this reading of Le Sacre is the independence of the lines, which are interpreted with a certain individuality that gives the music great flexibility, notably in the woodwinds' contrapuntal passages. Les biches has a bright neo-classical quality that is emphasized by the winds' incisive attacks, brisk tempos overall, and the transparent tone colors of the orchestra.

With Stephen Hough's Mendelssohn we enter a new dimension. The soft, stylish arpeggios that open the first work here, the Capriccio brillant, announce something special. But this is just a preparation for the First Concerto. Here again, 'stylish' is the word. One can sense the background – especially the operatic background against which these works were composed. The first solo doesn't simply storm away, fortissimo; one hears distinct emotional traits: the imperious, thundering octaves, the agitated semiquavers, the pleading appoggiaturas.
