The Smile—the trio of Tom Skinner and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood—have announced a new live album. The Smile (Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, July 2022) will be available digitally on Wednesday, December 14. All seven songs were recorded at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Jackie McLean’s music weaved in and out of the avant-garde throughout the 1960s with the brilliant 1963 inside-out dates One Step Beyond and Destination… Out! eventually leading to full-throated free jazz of the 1967 dates New and Old Gospel (featuring Ornette Coleman on trumpet) and ‘Bout Soul. Demon’s Dance, which was recorded in December 1967, found the alto saxophonist maintaining a decidedly post-bop edge with a spirited quintet comprised of trumpeter Woody Shaw, pianist LaMont Johnson, bassist Scott Holt, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The six-song set presented a pair of tunes each by McLean, Shaw, and composer Cal Massey with highlights including McLean’s churning title track, Shaw’s tuneful bossa “Sweet Love of Mine,” and Massey’s brightly swinging “Message from Trane” in tribute to the great John Coltrane who had passed away early that year.

With his big, warm, round-toned sound, sophisticated phrasing, and hip quotes, Dexter Gordon was one of the major forces on the tenor saxophone from the mid-1940’s until his death in1990. Gordon was cited by both Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane as a major influence on their playing. Dexter moved to Europe in the early 1960’s, settling in Copenhagen, Denmark. During this period, he usually played and recorded backed by a piano trio, so, with two horns joining him, this album is special. One of the great modern jazz trombonists, Slide Hampton is also a composer/arranger of note. Three of the compositions and all of the arrangements on the album are his.

From the wreckage of Free came Bad Company, the English hard rock supergroup fronted by singer Paul Rodgers and featuring his drummer bandmate Simon Kirke, Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. Peter Grant, who managed the rock band Led Zeppelin, also managed Bad Company until 1982.

The Faces gave us a handful of fantastic records during the early 70s – but alongside those studio sets, their antics as a live group were even more stunning – as you'll hear on some of this material recorded for the BBC at the time! The tunes aren't as totally freewheeling and over the top as their work on stage, but are still pretty great – and show that rawness at the core that has continued to give the group power that's lived on for many years, even past the more mainstream career of Rod Stewart too! Stewart is incredible here on vocals – and the rest of the group are impeccable instrumentally – and titles include a 1971 show with "Had Me A Real Good Time", "Love In Vain", "Oh Lord I'm Browned Off", and "Maybe I'm Amazed" – plus more live versions of "I'm Losing You", "Twistin The Night Away", and "It's All Over Now" – plus a great blend of "Too Much Woman/Street Fighting Man". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Collective Soul’s triple-platinum sophomore album will be commemorated with its first-ever vinyl pressing.

First Snow of The Year is the project of Belgium-based artist Erik Sevenans, who adopted this moniker in 2017 following his relocation to Munich, Germany. Whilst grappling with a foreign language and adjusting to his new environment, Erik found himself in the midst of an exceptionally cold winter that year. During this period of adaptation, he embarked on the creation of an album, delving into the exploration of ambient textures, a departure from his usual musical terrain. The album, born out of this experimental phase, coincided with the first snowfall of the year, thus being the reason for the project's distinctive name. Originally conceived as Erik's personal soundtrack for his daily subway commute while engrossed in Murakami novels, the project took on a life of its own.

The Black Keys will release a special tenth anniversary edition of their landmark seventh studio album El Camino via Nonesuch Records on November 5, 2021. El Camino (10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) will be available in several formats including a Super Deluxe edition of five vinyl LPs or four CDs, featuring a remastered version of the original album, a previously unreleased Live in Portland, ME concert recording, a BBC Radio 1 Zane Lowe session from 2012 and a 2011 Electro-Vox session.

"Santana (III)" is Santana's third studio album and was released in September 1971. It is often referred to simply as "III" or as "Man with An Outstretched Hand". The third and last album by the same members who played at Woodstock, it has been considered by many to be the band's peak, musically. The album was the last Santana album to reach #1 on the charts until Supernatural in 1999. Two singles came from III: "Everybody's Everything" and "No One to Depend On".
