The Gábor Ladányi Trio toured Hungary for the first time in May 2023. At the beginning of April, I contacted Robert Zoltan Hunka, who suggested recording a new album at his studio. Honestly, I hadn't planned on making a new album since we had just released our first one a few months prior. I didn't have enough new songs, but I was thrilled about the opportunity, and the prospect of a new album inspired me.

Retrograde by Sirius Quartet is a collection of innovative string works from Mari Tamaki. Tamaki, a Japanese cellist, composer, performer, and producer, conjures up drama through intense dissonances and delicate tonal harmonies throughout. The result is elegant and dynamic, drawing on Tamaki’s classical, improvisational, and avant-garde influences. The album features works like parallel realities, an ode to a cross-dimensional world that quite possibly exists. It also includes sneak into the Q-city, named after a work by Japanese painter Iori Mamiya depicting a psychedelic journey into one’s own mind. Contrary to what its title suggests, RETROGRADE is forward-thinking and intellectually captivating.

Italy and Spain were naturally also sources of inspiration in the 19th century as countries of longing. An illustrious group of composers, including celebrities from countries further north such as Johannes Brahms, expressed this longing in a variety of ways. Carmen Artaza and Hilko Dumno breathe Mediterranean temperament into all of this and unfold a luminous colorfulness.

A deep and wonderful thought, Lemongrass aka Roland Voss has drawn inspiration from while creating his brand new longplayer. Once again Roland Voss is demonstrating mastery at capturing the beauty in the scenes of everyday life. With an eclectic knack for a modern electronic sound design, a lush instrumentation spiced with fine acoustics, “Mirror Of Life” soars over vast and beautiful, mainly nature inspired soundscapes. Always on a mission to expand into the sonic universe of Downtempo, Electronica, Chillout and Ambient, Roland Voss has steadily pushed forward to reveal new dimensions beyond genre limitations.
