Greatest Hits is an excellent, thorough 16-track collection containing all of Journey's big hits, from 1978's "Wheel in the Sky" to 1986's "I'll Be Alright Without You." Although the songs aren't presented in chronological order and a handful of minor hits ("Suzanne," "Walks Like a Lady") aren't included, it doesn't matter, since every essential Journey single – "Only the Young," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Any Way You Want It," "Separate Ways," "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'," "Open Arms," "Send Her My Love" – is here, which means that it's all most casual fans will ever need.

Marin Marais’s music apparently still has a few more secrets tucked away up its sleeve… Proof of this is to be found in the Panmure manuscript, which is conserved in Edinburgh and contains forty-five pieces for viola da gamba which are not to be found anywhere else. Noémie Lenhof has chosen to highlight them on her first album as a soloist. Thanks to some major reconstruction work, a number of unpublished couplets from the Folies d’Espagne, a grande chaconne and a whole suite of dances are brought back to life by the young gambist’s bow.

Swiss violinist Renato Wiedemann has chosen a very personal theme for his debut album. As a dual Swiss-Brazilian citizen, he also wanted to reflect on his roots musically, and so the choice fell on a recording of 20th century violin sonatas from Switzerland and Brazil. The result is a special and unusual programme with works by Bloch, Schoeck, Villa-Lobos, Widmer and Camargo Guarnieri, in which he is wonderfully supported by his chamber music partner and friend, the pianist Marija Bokor.

In the 20th century, with the transformations in aesthetics, new facets of the clarinet were discovered, but it always remained an instrument with unrivaled tonal, dynamic, articulation, and agogic properties. The clarinet can be sensitive and vulgar, discreet and intrusive, mysterious, and unceremoniously transparent. It can evoke the atmosphere of folk fun, mournful lament, or an oriental scene. It can do a lot. And its most admirable ability is its capacity to blend with different instruments, with their colors merging or contrasting. Together, they create completely new, synthetic colors, whose quality depends not only on what it is combined with but also on the register in which the combination takes place.

With this album, Sanae Yoshida presents five new solo works for the microtonal piano by composers Eivind Buene (N), Keiko Harada (J), Oyvind Maeland (N), Michelle Agnes Magalhaes (BR) and Andreas Gundersen (N). As a musical instrument the piano is, both literally and figuratively, black and white. A paradigm of discipline and order, carefully tuned such that all intervals between the notes are the same, and that all keys, major and minor, sound with an absolute maximum of consistent, consonant clarity. Regardless of what the piano may look like, and how it might have been designed, arranged and built, for many composers an instrument is less a full stop than a question mark, a collection of materials that have the potential to constitute a panoply of multicoloured technical possibilities.

Love – from many-splendoured and joyous to tragic and rejected, homo- and heterosexual, light-hearted and broken-hearted, heavenly and earthly, innocent and anything but: in their first joint recording, long-term performing partners Harriet Burns and Ian Tindale make a deeply personal choice of Schubert’s lieder, exploring the theme of love, but also the friendships and relationships between poets and the composer out of which he crafted songs of astonishing empathy. Former Winners of the Contemporary Song Prize in the International Vocal Competition at ’s-Hertogenbosch, Ian and Harriet bring an outstanding empathy of their own to songs in which we hear, in Ian’s words, ‘young artists being creative together and exploring things’.

Grievous Angel is the second and final solo studio album by Gram Parsons, compiled from summer 1973 sessions and released four months after his death from a morphine and alcohol overdose in September 1973. It received great critical acclaim upon release, but failed to find commercial success. Grievous Angel peaked at number 195 on the Billboard charts. Despite its modest sales, it is viewed as a successful example of the hybrid between country and rock and roll Parsons called "Cosmic American Music". In 2012, the album was ranked number 425 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
