Ubuntu Music is delighted to announce the upcoming release of The Hold Up, the second album from QOW Trio, which will be released worldwide on 26th January 2024.

Scandinavian powerhouse Friends & Neighbors make an auspicious return with Circles, their sixth full-length release, brimming – as you might expect from an outfit borrowing its moniker from a lesser-known Ornette Coleman classic – with dexterous, hard-edged improvisations, unapologetically taking influence from the fearless New Thing movement of the 1960s and early 70s.

After 20 years as a working unit John Etheridge and his Blue Spirits trio have appropriately released a live album that captures the band's brilliance in the area of blues inflected jazz. Guitarist John Etheridge hardly needs introduction having worked as a solo artist and bandleader and in lengthy associations with some of the greatest names of 20th century music - Stephane Grappelli, Soft Machine, John Williams, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Summers - which give some idea of his range - over 53 years as a working musician. The music here subtly reveals all these influences, brought to bear in an organ trio setting.

Recorded in 1959 when Ella was 41, the collection contains 59 compositions by Gershwin, which were arranged by Nelson Riddle. One notable performance from this recording is Fitzgerald's rendition of "But Not for Me", which won her the 1960 Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance (Female). Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook was also listed as one of the 1001 Albums You Must Hear before You Die.
