Bachar wanted to record this fifth record, On/Off in his native Lebanon. More precisely in the main room of his family house, a stone house standing alone in the mountains north of Beirut. In the house, electricity goes on & off twice, a day. During the night, hostile and freezing, hyenas are heard; during the day, the birds whistle with serenity, and the light of day shines through the windows, each day slightly differently… This constant duality becomes a source of inspiration for Bachar, obsessed as he is by this rustic environment which exacerbates the senses.

In 7 years of touring throughout France and internationally, Bachar Mar-Khalifé has given more than 500 concerts. Each show being a new opportunity to meet an ever-increasing and ever-more loyal audience. Each show being a new opportunity for the artist to show his faithfulness to his audience in return. This album is the recording of Bachar Mar-Khalifé's last concerts in trio, given on December 16&17, 2022.

This album is a very special project to me. Not only is it the first set of music I have released under my name, but I believe it accurately reflects my musical upbringing and interests unlike anything I have done before. Hypsometric shows a wide variety of my musical interests, including R&B, rock, funk, soul, and straight-ahead jazz.

A year and 5 albums after he has brought the Manna/Mirage project to a close, ex-Muffins musician / composer Dave Newhouse has produced a new album under the moniker of…’Dave Newhouse’, this one titled “Natura Morta”, Latin for Still Life. Many of the same musical suspects (guest musicians) from around the world are involved, this one is a bit longer than the aforementioned Manna/Mirage albums clocking in at around 43 minutes. It still has that signature AmeriCanterbury / Muffins compositional ethic as well as fast and furious examples of fusion / jazz rock, RIO, World Music, Americana, and alt-jazz. Even John Greaves (Henry Cow / Kew Rhône / National Health) makes a lovely appearance here. as does Guy Segers (Univers Zero / Eclectic Maybe Band).
