Gorgeous and seductively simple, Batist manages to fuse jazz, classical and the subtleties of world and Latin flavors into a rich sonic mosaic. Much like the genres they so effortlessly transcend, this trio crosses over the artistic limitations of 'labels' and emerges with a fresh vibrant sound with unlimited potential. The brightly colored tiles of a mosaic are in relation to the vibrant bits and pieces of musical variety offered including Sting's 'I Was Brought To My Senses.' Barbara Burkle's pristine vocals accompanied by the classical guitar of Tillmann Reinbeck reinvent a pop tune into a more eclectic contemporary ambiance. Far more than just a passable cover, Batist adds their own musical depth of field and breathes fresh life into the classic Sting tune.

Lueurs is a wonderful recording, remarkable for its originality, the quality of its elements and its successful blend. This recording was produced with Fidelio Music, internationally recognized for the exceptional sound quality of its productions which are much appreciated by audiophiles all over the world. He also included a string quartet on 11 songs, 5 of them inspired by the impressionist era, and 6 original songs. The album includes 9 songs. This adds a majestic sonority and makes for an interesting hybrid: a repertoire from a precise era (1850-1925), a sound fitting this particular era with the string quartet, but voiced with a modern jazz language… which is the nature of this project.

With Across The Way, his eighth album as a leader, guitarist Brad Shepik seems to have mellowed with age: while still incorporating elements of Eastern and South Eastern European music cultures typical of earlier projects - many rendered with unusualinstrumentation - this all-original quartet offering sounds ‘mainstream’ by comparison. Supported by vibraphonist Tom Beckham, bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Mark Guiliana, Shepik’s compositions feature odd time signatures, shifting key centers, unusual modes and lithe, loping melodies that gently cross the borders of conventional practices but without calling attention to the underlying techniques.

For the first time I have encountered the musical material "Memento" at a small concert, which is a kind of warm-up of the band, just before entering the recording studio. Already at that time the idea that we would deal with a very good album sprouted in me. Hearing the finished material confirmed those hunches with an excess. I did not know the statements of musicians about the genesis of the work and the inspirations that led them in the creative process. So I took the "Memento" as an unnamed tribute to the person of Great Music and the period of cooperation with Him. At the time of recording the album has not been marked with Departure.
