By presenting Schubert’s first three symphonies and a selection of stage music, this album showcases a less-known, but fascinating part of the composer’s oeuvre. His extraordinary achievements in the fields of Lieder and string quartet composition tend to overshadow his orchestral output, and his symphonic contributions have sometimes been viewed as marginal in comparison to Beethoven’s, but judged on their own merits, these works display a high level of sophistication indeed.

Two years after releasing her CD dedicated to Book I of J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Céline Frisch now presents the second volume of this musical landmark. Bach compiled Book II in 1744, twenty-two years after Book I. It took until 1801 for both volumes to be printed: from then until the present day they have inspired countless composers.

Erased Tapes presents the invigorating and powerful debut solo album Lines of Sight by Australian-born, Liverpool-based composer, saxophonist and founder of Immix Ensemble, Daniel Thorne. Deeply moving, the album is alive, throbbing like a circulatory system, colourful and glowing. Avant-garde, noise, electronics, ecclesiastical, classical and a touch of jazz come together, each occupying their own space while acquiescing with the whole.

Once lived a man that was an inspiration to country music to the entire nation i used his songs to learn upon there's many friends to thank like Ernest Tubb or George D Hay Wes Rose and here's to Hank.

Eddy Arnold's The Glory of Love is one of a few of his late RCA albums on which every song sounds like either Glen Campbell or Bobby Goldsboro. "Heaven Below" is melodically similar to Campbell's "Witchita Lineman," and "Then She's a Lover" (a hit for Roy Clark) is a slice-of-life song like Goldsboro's "The Straight Life," or "Honey" without the morbid ending. Veteran arranger Bill Walker's contributions are in keeping with the times and are most interesting on the hit "But for Love" with its echoey guitar leads. "Please Don't Go" was Arnold's last Top Ten hit for over a decade, and in the context of the album doesn't particularly stand out. Arnold was entering a commercial as well as creative dry spell at this point, and his best cuts are better-heard on collections.

The youngest of four brothers, he began to sing with Joe, Gene, and Vic in the late '40s. The Ames Brothers hit the Top Ten three times between 1954 and 1957, and starred in their own series in 1955. After the group broke up in 1959, Ames traveled to New York to study acting; he appeared in a few stage productions and then accepted a role in the series Daniel Boone playing Mingo the Indian. He began recording again in 1964, eventually notching seven hits in the charts, including 1967's Top Ten single "My Cup Runneth Over." Twelve albums were eventually released from the mid-'60s to early '70s, including The Best of Ed Ames (1969).

This album was successful. Two singles from this album were also successful. The most successful was "Rings of Gold", which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Country charts in 1969. All the songs in this album are duets, both with Gibson and West. "Rings of Gold" helped Dottie West's career, because it became her biggest hit up to that point. It also revitalized Don Gibson's career as a solo artist. The other single from the album, "Sweet Memories" was a Top 40 hit, reaching No. 32. Their duet partnership would last into the next year, with another Top 10 hit, but they never recorded another album together. This album reached No. 21 on the "Top Country Albums" chart in 1969.

Jim Ed Brown came to fame as a member of the '50s vocal group the Browns, where he was the band's lead male vocalist. In 1965, when the group was still together, he embarked on a solo career that would eventually eclipse the success of the Browns.

Big-voiced Ed Ames followed up his highly successful album My Cup Runneth Over with Time, Time, a similar set of traditional pop and show tunes beautifully arranged and impeccably performed. The title track sounds like an attempt to create another "My Cup Runneth Over" the two songs even share, briefly, a string melody and the single gave Ames another adult contemporary chart-topper. Ames capably handles dramatic Broadway tunes like "Cabaret" and "Sunrise, Sunset" as well as the Beatles' "Michelle," in an arrangement that makes the song sound like an old pop chestnut.

After years of bruised heads, long days and nights at school, and exam stress, the completion of an album has to be far more intense and redeeming than usual. Tanya Barany, who sent a greeting to Switzerland with her first single "Red Dust" from the ZHdK in 2016, not only opens at "Lights Disappear", she bursts. Her first album (or EP, depending on your point of view) is a dark pop work that relies equally on dynamic soundscapes and emotional outbursts. Always massive, always walking in the shade.

Correspondance is Olivier Hébert's second album. At the head of his LOFI OCTET, this multi-instrumentalist practices the balance between the sensuality of the string quartet and the ardor of jazz. These two worlds merge thanks to a work of writing bringing out the best of both worlds. The astounding result of this stylistic intermingling blurs the limits of chamber music and contemporary jazz.

Old Time Relijun and K have been co-conspirators through the ages and it has been a wild ride. Old Time Relijun is an unearthly combo from Olympia, Washington. We don’t like to throw words like “genius”, “brilliant” or “Legendary” around lightly. Nor do we use them to describe Old Time Relijun (though others do). We prefer to see them as “mythical”. Their new album See Now and Know appears after a mysterious decade-long hiatus reuniting the classicCatharsis in Crisis lineup featuring bandleader Arrington de Dionyso with Aaron Hartman (upright bass), Germaine Baca (drums) and Benjamin Hartman (saxophone and percussion).

It may draw on the influences of Serge Gainsbourg, Carole King and James Taylor, but Jonathan Jeremiah's Good Day is far from a time capsule. If there's anything this singer-songwriter has learned over the years, it's that ''timing is a feeling, and music is a feeling and when you get people playing together, it's about that feeling.'' Good Day was recorded at Ray Davies's Konk Studios, which Jeremiah described as ''a beautiful environment in which to get six or seven people together.'' He didn't stop there, however, cramming a 19-piece string and horn section into the room. ''That's what I'm trying to capture with my records,'' he explains, ''the sound of people together.''
