Despite the rivalry between the operatic companies leaded by Haendel and Porpora in London (1734-1737), much has to be said about the real nature of the connection between the two composers. Both the musicians were considered outstandingly original for their aesthetic choices. Both admired each other's music. The few whirlwind years of their defiance in Great Britain produced memorable scores: among them, Ariodante by Haendel and Polifemo by Porpora, performed with simultaneous runs in the city theaters. The fight between the two operatic company was an opportunity for the composers to meet and discover each other, to deal with the taste of the audience and to experiment new ideas, getting strength from the incredible skills of the members of the vocal casts (Farinelli, Senesino, Carestini, etc.).

Bernard Foccroulle devotes his latest recording — the last of the anthology of Northern German organ music of the Baroque period — to Jacob Praetorius and Melchior Schildt, both pupils of Sweelinck. Praetorius and Schildt’s music is not only strongly marked by Lutheran tradition, in which the chorale played a fundamental part, but also by other influences, principally Italian, that prepared the way for the explosion of the stylus fantasticus at the end of the 17th century. Bernard Foccroulle was born in Liège (Belgium) in 1953.

"Wildflowers" is the second solo studio album by American musician Tom Petty, released on November 1, 1994. The album was the first released by Petty after signing a contract with Warner Bros. Records (where he had recorded as part of the Traveling Wilburys) and the first of three albums produced by Rick Rubin. An unusual move for Tom Petty to score the music for the Edward Burns's film "She's the One" and then still turn it into a standard Tom Petty release. The inclusions of two versions of "Walls" and "Angel Dream" make it seem more like a movie soundtrack. But, at heart, the material is more classic Petty. "Grew Up Fast" and "Hope You Never" are perfect radio songs and Petty's cover of Beck's "Asshole" proves his anti-punk stance may finally be softening with a little help from producer Rick Rubin, whose ears have given Petty his most appealing production in years.

Lina Darelid, on vocals, joins the trio for an intimate, jazzy version of an absolute cornerstone and a choral brassband contributes to the appraised evenings encore. Definitely a memorable ”Sunday Night Live” experience, according to the cheerful audience.

Paul Frankenburger left his native Germany in 1933 in response to the National Socialists’ rise to power. Up to that point he had been fully immersed in the German tradition and his compositions followed in the footsteps of the great German post-Romantics like Mahler. Yet after arriving to the British Mandate of Palestine, not only did he change his name to Paul Ben-Haim, but his compositional style underwent a profound change as well. Devised by the young violinist Itamar Zorman, this album tracks how the music of the region gradually became an integral part of Ben-Haim’s compositions. Six works spanning four decades represent different stages in this process of synthesis between East and West, the transformation of Frankenburger into Ben-Haim.

Born in Prague in 1737, Josef Mysliveček spent most of his short life in Italy, where for a while he enjoyed success with his many operas, and became known as ‘Il Boemo’ (‘The Bohemian’). It was also in Italy – in Bologna – that he first met Mozart, in 1770. Their paths would cross again and in letters Mozart wrote about him with affection, describing him as full of ‘fire, spirit and life’. Mysliveček’s influence is apparent in Mozart’s early operas, violin concertos, symphonies and keyboard music.
