Beach Boys' Party! is the tenth studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, and their third in 1965, consisting mostly of cover songs played with acoustic instruments. The album was recorded in a music studio and presented as an impromptu live recording of a party, with informal chatter by friends and family overdubbed later. The record company, Capitol, wanted an album for the holiday season, but as there was no new material ready, several options were considered, including a greatest hits album and a live album, before the band decided on the party theme. The Beach Boys covered songs by the Beatles, several doo-wop groups, Bob Dylan, and the Everly Brothers.

Peter Wolf’s “A Cure for Loneliness,” just his third solo album since 2002, is a mostly laid-back effort reverberating with thoughtful country tones.Wolf has kept the bar high since “Long Line,” his 1996 comeback mixing rock, blues, soul and various sorts of American music. Wolf’s late ’60s stint as an eclectic DJ on Boston’s legendary WBCN is reflected in his choice of covers, including tunes made famous by Moe Bandy and Lefty Frizzell, as well as Thomas Wayne’s 1959 weeper, “Tragedy.” There’s up-tempo material, but much of the album is like a smoky, end-of-night set on an intimate stage by a seasoned ensemble drawing more out of basic arrangements and instruments than much grander productions. Wolf has been taking his time between albums, but it again has been worth the wait.

This is the first of many albums that features Jon Sass on the tuba. I'd just been to New Orleans where I figured out that it would be interesting to try to combine my string sounds with a brass bass. Fate has it that I met Jon at the Vienna Airport on the way back - he was up for the idea. We created a pretty unique sound and have since worked together for over 15 years. The album features old blues tunes and original songs. I invited TexMex accordion-man Flaco Jimenez to play on the title track. Baby Wants To Boogie was a minor hit for me.
