Marianne Elliott directs Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s legendary musical comedy about life, love and marriage, with performances at the West End’s Gielgud Theatre until 30th March 2019. The critically acclaimed hit musical of 2018 begins at Bobbie’s (Rosalie Craig) 35th birthday party with all her friends wondering why she isn’t married, why she can’t find the right man and why she can’t settle down and have a family.

Still one of the worthy purveyors of Synthpop in the current decade is Broods, which consists of Georgia Nott (lead vocals) and her brother Caleb (synthesizers, backing vocals). The 2013-formed, New Zealand–hailing duo released their debut album, Evergreen, in the ensuing year. Arnold Schoenberg wrote those words in reference to Gustav Mahler, who had just died without ever having heard his own Ninth Symphony performed. Bruckner was apparently afraid of the fatal number as well: "I don’t want to start on my Ninth at all, I don’t dare”. However, very soon after the completion of his Eighth Symphony in September 1887, Bruckner started on his first drafts. Overall, work on the Ninth then dragged on over the long period from 1887 to 1896, having to be constantly interrupted because of the composer’s deteriorating health.

In 2003, Columbia/Legacy reissued 15 selected titles from Bob Dylan's catalog as hybrid SACDs. Each title was packaged as a digipak, containing the full original artwork. On each of the titles, and on each of the layers, the remastered sound was spectacular, a considerable upgrade from the initial CD pressings. Five of these titles – Another Side of Bob Dylan, Blonde on Blonde, Bringing It All Back Home, Slow Train Coming, Blood on the Tracks, Love and Theft – also had 5.1 Surround Sound mixes.

At the very dawn of the Romantic Era, a dandy called Duport gave the French cello school a number of virtuoso cello concertos brimming with charm and elegance. The vivid dialogue between Raphaël Pidoux and Stradivaria in these recordings on period instruments invites us to discover a galant world at the height of Classicism.

It was at the famous Paris jazz club, the Sunset, in the 1990s that this trio of influential figures of European jazz was born with the French organist Emmanuel Bex, the Italian drummer Aldo Romano and the Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine. If they find themselves episodically since 20 years, no recording had until then immortalized their musical complicity, (except a short passage on Bex 3, the album Pee Wee of 1998).

The focus of Extravagantes Seicento is the musical exuberance of a century full of contradictions, and at the same time receptive towards all kinds of novelty. By means of a rich collection of instrumental sonatas for violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord, the recording portrays the peregrine world of composers and instrumentalists who travelled throughout Europe in their search for receptive cultural circles and the degree of financial stability required for the creation of new works. In particular the Habsburg courts of Vienna and Innsbruck attracted artists from Italy and central Europe, becoming hubs for innovation in the visual arts, the theatre and instrumental music.

When Quentin Sauvé did not tour with his post-hardcore band Birds In Row, he did a number of side-projects, including Throw Me Off The Bridge. Except this time, he comes back solo under his real name by unplugging the guitars for his album Whatever It Takes.

'Confessions' is a collaboration between the acclaimed American composer Nico Muhly and the Faroese singer/songwriter Teitur. The two musicians began work on the project when Muhly was composer-in-residence at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The songs' lyrics were inspired by or culled from video and commentary the pair found on YouTube. Muhly and Teitur will perform songs from the album with New York Baroque Incorporated at New York's (le) Poisson Rouge on Friday, October 21, and with British Sinfonietta at Cadogan Hall in London on Saturday, October 29.
