The countdown is on for Beethoven's 250th birthday in 2020. The composer still stands for independence of mind, for revolutionary ideas, for music that reaches far beyond his own time. To celebrate, Sony Masterworks presents this outstanding interpretation of his famous 9th symphony from the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra under the baton of it's chief conductor James Gaffigan, following up their "Beethoven Project" (complete piano concertos) from autumn 2017. This release also features the orchestra's version of the famous "Prisoners' Chorus" from Fidelio, as well as "Nänie" by Johannes Brahms, an unjustly rarely performed masterwork.

Cavatine, the debut album of cellist Cameron Crozman and pianist Philip Chiu, explores the refined world of French music in the first half of the 20th century. Framed by the great Sonatas of Debussy and Poulenc, the programme includes lesser-known works by Messiaen, Koechlin, and Francaix. Together, they paint a vivid picture of the multitude of styles- from the impressionist to the surrealist- that defined the era.

Like the 17th century French harpsichordists before her, Mélisande McNabney draws on the musical universe during the time of Louis XIV and Louis XV. Inspired by song, the lute, the viola da gamba, and even the complete orchestra, harpsichordists of this era aimed to reproduce these sounds in their compositions and transcriptions. Like her predecessors, Melisande McNabney performs transcriptions for harpsichord.

This recording by the guitarist Emmanuel Rossfelder came into being as the result of encounters with the singer Raquel Camarinha and her pianist, Yoan Héreau, then with Victor Villena, a specialist of the bandoneon. To the rhythms of the fandango, fados and tangos, he takes us to Spain and Portugal, as well as South America and as far afield as Tokyo!

Tenor Ian Bostridge joins Ludovic Morlot and the Seattle Symphony in an album exploring the music of iconic French composers renowned for their inventive spirit: Berlioz, Ravel and Debussy. Hailed by The Seattle Times for his “warm tone quality and beautiful expression” during the performance of Berlioz’s Les nuits d’ete, the live-in-concert track is paired with studio recordings of Ravel’s imaginative Sheherazade and Debussy’s colorfully rich Le livre de Baudelaire, orchestrated by John Adams.

Mezzo-soprano Eva Zaïcik, who has signed up with Alpha for several recordings, is one of the most prominent vocal artists of her generation. She was chosen as ‘Révélation lyrique’ at the Victoires de la Musique Classique 2018, and elected the same year a Laureate of the prestigious Queen Elizabeth of Belgium Competition. She has participated in the “Jardin des Voix” of les Arts Florissants under William Christie, also regularly collaborates with Le Poème Harmonique and Vincent Dumestre – but her constant accompanist is the harpsichordist Justin Taylor.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this album, I'm relatively familiar with Norse mythology and culture and have an ecletic taste in music so I thought it was worth a listen and I wasn't disappointed. The album aims to transcribe 'Viking' poetry into music with an attempt at an authentic viking musical journey. What it does is conjure up a journey into the past. The vocals are atmospheric and driving, both haunting and powerful accompanied tribal percussion. Imagine the Uraki in Lord of the Rings doing Clannad; like Clannad did in Magical Ring and Legend, Skald paint a audio picture of a world gone by full of mystery and awe. This is something very different and I'm not sure if it should be filed under Metal (think Van Canto, Blind Guardian or Ne Obliviscaris) or classical. This is an album that I really can't stop listening to - brilliant.

The Northeastern United States, and New England in particular, were always very good to the Grateful Dead in terms of fan support, and the Dead rewarded New England in turn with many appearances and memorable shows in the area. Connecticut’s state capital hosted numerous shows by the band, primarily at the Hartford Civic Center, which had been renamed the XL Center by the time Dead & Company arrived there for this excellent performance.

Golden Globe nominated composer Alex Heffes has over 60 film and TV scores to his name. It was his scores to Kevin Macdonald's Academy Award-winning films ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND and BAFTA-winning TOUCHING THE VOID that first won him international acclaim. Alongside his long collaboration with Macdonald, he has worked with many of cinema’s top filmmakers such as Stephen Frears, Mira Nair, Catherine Hardwicke, Peter Webber and Tim Burton earning him the reputation as a composer with a unique voice who can communicate with directors at a deep level.

Composer, pianist and lawyer, he is the author of numerous soundtracks for documentaries, television commercials, and for great masterpieces of silent cinema. He released "Dispari", "Tabù", "Igloo" and on 8 October 2012 he released the fourth album "Viaggiatore Immobile". His songs have been selected for national broadcasts such as "Ballarò" (Rai 3) and "Eight and a Half" (La 7) and by singer-songwriter Simone Cristicchi for the documentary "From the other side of the gate". It boasts numerous performances in the most prestigious places of Italian music, such as the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and the Arena di Verona.

„Three Bells“ is an historic collaboration between Dobro masters Jerry Douglas (13-time Grammy winner and three-time Country Music Association Musician of the Year,) Mike Auldridge (1970’s Dobro pioneer, member of The Seldom Scene, and sideman for Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt,) and Rob Ickes of Blue Highway, the most awarded instrumentalist in the history of the International Bluegrass Music Association.

In collaboration with Futurikon Films, Music Box Records proudly presents on CD the original motion picture soundtrack of the animated film Minuscule: Mandibles from Far Away (2019) composed, orchestrated and conducted by Mathieu Lamboley (Return of the Hero, Boule & Bill 2). Minuscule: Mandibles from Far Away (in French theaters in January 30, 2019), co-written and directed by Hélène Giraud and Thomas Szabo, shares the same creative universe as the successful Minuscule series created in 2006. The first feature film titled Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants (2014) was a huge hit in France and won the France's César Award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 40th César Awards.
