The Jazzlab Orchestra is a Montreal-based ensemble of 8 musicians that presents creative music since 2003 - the Orchestra celebrates this year its fifteenth anniversary. This collective of artistic collaboration has produced many projects over the years, but always working with top players of the Montreal jazz scene. After 6 albums and more than 250 concerts around the world, the Jazzlab now presents Quintessence, the music of composer and pianist Félix Stüssi. On the menu: a refined musical experience exploring the essence of jazz itself. Be it on a bicycle or behind the keys, Felix Stussi loves adventure and fresh wind.

The Monkees' first album was a huge success, following on the number one single "Last Train to Clarksville." The Monkees spent 78 weeks on the Billboard chart including an astounding 13 weeks at number one. The record wasn't only a commercial juggernaut, it also stands as one of the great debuts of all time, and while the record and the group have faced criticism from rock purists through the ages, it stands the test of time perfectly well, sounding as alive and as much fun 40 years later. Prefabricated? Yes. After a fast buck? Yes.

Florence Price was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and studied at the New England Conservatory, but it was in Chicago that her composing career accelerated. The concert in 1933 at which her Symphony No. 1 in E minor was premiered was the first time a major American orchestra had performed a piece written by an African American woman. Influenced by Dvorák and Coleridge-Taylor, she drew on the wellspring of Negro spirituals and vernacular dances, full of lyricism and syncopation. The Symphony No. 4 in D minor demonstrates her tight ensemble writing, her distinct sense of orchestral color, her Ellingtonian ‘jungle style’ language and her penchant for the ‘juba’ dance.

Franz Ferdinand are welcomed into the Late Night Tales family with a diverse 20 track selection of musical influences, inspirations, diversions and discoveries. The quartet have released four studio albums including their 2004 self-titled debut album, which went gold just about anywhere with a record store, as well as nabbing the Mercury Music Prize and a pair of Brits for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. They’ve subsequently gone on to release You Could Have It So Much Better, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand and last year’s Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action.

The 2019 Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert took place on January 1, 2019, under the baton of Christian Thielemann in the Musikverein in Vienna. Christian Thielemann, Principal Conductor of the Dresden Staatskapelle and Artistic Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival, has since 2000 been a musical partner of the Vienna Philharmonic. The New Year's Concert 2019 represented Thielemann's first time to conduct this prestigious international concert event.

In Letters to My Future Self, American composer and violist Nick Revel takes us on a musical journey of a constantly morphing Soundscape of styles and genres. This is all performed on viola, but some tracks also have cello, a guitar, or a second viola. This is a fascinating and enjoyable musical experience.

Fearful Symmetry is a collection of 24 art songs by American composer William Mac Davis, performed by soprano Lynda Poston-Smith and pianist Robert Carl Smith. William Mac Davis was born May 13, 1953. He received a B.M. and M.M. from the University of Mississippi, and a PhD in Composition from the University of Utah. Mac also continued postdoctoral study at the Eastman School of Music. Some of his teachers were Samuel Adler, Ned Rorem and Ramiro Cortes. He has worked at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Lynda Poston Smith and Robert Carl Smith are a husband and wife duo who regularly perform concerts and have recorded several albums together.

Director and keyboardist Julian Perkins and his acclaimed ensemble Sounds Baroque join with soprano Anna Dennis to this celebration of the songs Henry Purcell. Kown for his undisputed mastery in setting the English language, Purcell also absorbed influences from both French and italian styles, and the programm is complemented with close contemporaries who also worked in Lodon - a guitar suite from italian Francesco Corbetta and a harpsichord suite from Giovanni Battista Draghi, along with two songs from the earlier Stuart court composr Henry Lawes.

To celebrate 30 years of the Concert Spirituel, Hervé Niquet pays homage to the French musical patrimony of the 17th and 18th centuries, to whose exploration he remains passionately devoted. In close collaboration of Benoit Dratwicki and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles – which has also feted its 30th anniversary in 2018 – together they have devised an intriguingly unconventional programme idea.

Neil Young loves vintage automobiles so much he made an album that sounds like them. The drums powering the country-funk get-down “Fuel Line” mimic hammers bashing out dents in rusty hubcaps, while the ’50s-style rocker “Johnny Magic” roars like a muscle car tearing down the blacktop. But not every cut is so explicit. Acoustic and disarmingly honest, “Light a Candle” is a classic Young ballad that meditates on the winding journey that is life.

Known throughout country music as "the Guitar Man," singer/songwriter Jerry Reed gained recognition not only for a successful solo career but also as an actor and ace session player. Jerry Reed Hubbard was born in Atlanta, GA, on March 20, 1937; after picking up the guitar as a child, he was signed by publisher and producer Bill Lowery to cut his first record, "If the Good Lord's Willing and the Creeks Don't Rise," at the age of 18. He continued releasing both country and rockabilly singles to little notice until rocker Gene Vincent covered his "Crazy Legs" in 1958.

Leslie Thompson Baxter was an American musician and composer. After becoming well known as an arranger and composer for swing bands in the 1940s, he developed his own style of world music-influenced easy listening music, known as exotica, during the 1950s and 1960s. Baxter's heyday was in the '50s and '60s. Although he continued to compose and record in the '70s, his output was sporadic. Nevertheless, a cult following formed around his exotica recordings that persisted into the '90s.

It was in 1953, 65 years ago, that Herbert Blomstedt conducted the Gothenburg Symphony for the first time. Since then he has been back on numerous occasions, performing a wide range of works – only not those by Wilhelm Stenhammar. Blomstedt has told of how an international career gave him little opportunity to study and conduct Stenhammar’s music. At the age of 85, however, when he no longer had any obligations as a chief conductor, he thought ‘now or never’ and began to study the composer’s major scores in earnest.

Les Baxter is a pianist who composed and arranged for the top swing bands of the '40s and '50s, but he is better known as the founder of exotica, a variation of easy listening that glorified the sounds and styles of Polynesia, Africa, and South America, even as it retained the traditional string-and-horn arrangements of instrumental pop. Exotica became a massively popular trend in the '50s, with thousands of record buyers listening to Baxter, Martin Denny, and their imitators. Baxter also pioneered the use of the electronic instrument the theremin, which has a haunting, howling sound.

It all began in summer 2017 when Peter Broderick's former Efterklang bandmate Rasmus Stolberg invited him to perform at his new festival in Denmark, with the specific idea that Peter would play an entire set of Arthur Russell songs. As a long-time lover of Arthur’s work, Peter immediately accepted the invitation and began to learn a collection of Russell songs. Stolberg put together a band of Danish musicians to join Broderick on stage, and the festival performance went off without a hitch.
