Great Southern Land marks trumpeter Phillip Chase Hawkins’ recording debut. Hawkins’ decision to present the music of internationally renowned composer Brendan Collins in both duo and trio configurations clearly illustrates the exceptional synergy that exists between composer and artist. Each piece presents a unique scene, from Australian bushrangers escaping prison to the rich sounds of Vienna and its composers.

But he consistently pursued his goals, never got off track and with his unique style and his love for both, blues and hard rock, Popa Chubby became one of the world’s most innovative blues rock artist with a rich musical foundation with many studio albums.

Mimmo Langella neapolitan guitarist and composer born in 1968, started to play guitar at age 12. His study experiences include the "Berklee Summer School" at Umbria Jazz Clinics '86, the "Professional Guitar Player Program" of the Guitar Institute of Technology (G.I.T.) of Hollywood where he graduated with honors in 1994, the "Bachelor's Degree in Jazz" and the "Master's Degree in Jazz" of the "San Pietro a Majella" Conservatoire of Naples where he graduated with honors in 2007 and 2009, respectively, and the "Master's Degree in Jazz Guitar" of the "Domenico Cimarosa" Conservatoire of Avellino where he graduated with full marks in 2015.

First of all parkérien, but without the tragic dimension of the latter, it is also inspired by more classical artists (Benny Carter, Johnny Hodges), in an original combination, impressed of lyricism, sense of the melody and the rhythm , lightness and roundness. His enormous, rich and warm sound, and his desire to retain his popular roots in jazz, made him one of the leading jazz souls of the 1960s.

Cal Tjader was undoubtedly the most famous non-Latino leader of Latin jazz bands, an extraordinary distinction. From the 1950s until his death, he was practically the point man between the worlds of Latin jazz and mainstream bop; his light, rhythmic, joyous vibraphone manner could comfortably embrace both styles. His numerous recordings for Fantasy and Verve and long-standing presence in the San Francisco Bay Area eventually had a profound influence upon Carlos Santana, and thus Latin rock. He also played drums and bongos, the latter most notably on the George Shearing Quintet's puckishly titled "Rap Your Troubles in Drums," and would occasionally sit in on piano as well.

The period Mercury Roland Kirk, well before he adopts binary rhythms and expand his music to cross the boundaries of jazz. At the beginning of the sixties, Kirk is already an orchestral man who, without renouncing blues and tradition, explores new ways, both melodic and instrumental. Using up to three instruments simultaneously, including stritch and manzello, both from the saxophone family, he chose to surround himself with two quartets, the presence of pianist Andrew Hill in the first conferring a grain of madness extra to his music. Wiser but full of feeling, Wynton Kelly's piano is nonetheless endearing, especially since it builds on Roy Haynes' formidable drumming and Roland Kirk's humor remains infectious.

No one can tickle those ivories the way Juan Garcia Esquivel can. He is effortless in style and grace. Esquivel was a Mexican band leader, pianist, and composer for television and films. He is recognized today as one of the foremost exponents of a sophisticated style of largely instrumental music that combines elements of lounge music and jazz with Latin flavors. Esquivel is considered "The King of Space Age Pop", a style of late 1950s-early 1960s quirky instrumental pop known today as lounge music. His concerts in the fifties already featured elaborate light shows years before such effects became popular in live music. Included on this compilation are some of his most famous tunes, like "Mucha Muchacha", "La Mantilla" and "Whatchamacallit".

Henry Mancini's adventurous score for the 1962 thriller Experiment in Terror is one of the composer's many classic collaborations with director Blake Edwards. Released a year after Breakfast at Tiffany's and a year before The Pink Panther, it's a must for any level of Mancini collector, not because it's so representative of his work at the time but because it's extra quirky and diverse with jazzy lounge pieces, melancholy piano, and eerie suspense passages, as well as guitar rock ("Golden Gate Twist") and even a nod to the flapper era with the "Charleston"-like "The Good Old Days." The score was recorded earlier that year at RCA Victor's Music Center of the World by Henry Mancini & His Orchestra.

Tjader played the vibraphone primarily. He was accomplished on the drums, bongos, congas, timpani, and the piano. He worked with many musicians from several cultures. He is often linked to the development of Latin rock and acid jazz. Although fusing jazz with Latin music is often categorized as "Latin jazz" (or, earlier, "Afro-Cuban jazz"), Tjader's works swung freely between both styles. His Grammy award in 1980 for his album La Onda Va Bien capped off a career that spanned over forty years.

André Ceccarelli, Alex Ligertwood, Jannick Top, Henri Jacky Giordano and Giraudo were not to have more than twenty when they recorded their first album in 1972 for CY Records in a good period for music that fused rock, blues, R & B with jazz.

These world premiere recordings of works by award-winning composer David Gompper reflect his recent interest in the concerto, as well as his evolution of approach through increasing complexity in time and space, textural landscape and narrative detail.
