This six-track release completes a trilogy that began with 2016’s Not The Actual Events and 2017’s ADD VIOLENCE.

Just before his death in 1828 at the age of just 31, Franz Schubert was at work on his 10th Symphony in D major D936a, and had signed up for counterpoint lessons with Simon Sechter, who later taught the young Anton Bruckner. The 10th was destined to become yet another unfinished Schubert work, and his 6th unfinished symphony, but the extensive sketches are fascinating and show Schubert clearly moving into new sound worlds that anticipate Mahler in the central slow movement. Berio’s ingenious work ‘Renderings’ brings Schubert’s extensive sketches alive by creating a new work around and within the framework of the unfinished symphony.

The first release in Valery Gergiev s Rachmaninov symphony cycle features a magnificent performance of the Symphony No.2, recorded in September 2008 at the Barbican. This vast work was composed when Rachmaninov was at the pinnacle of his careers as composer, pianist and conductor. Filled with emotion and brimming with beautiful melodies, it is a masterpiece and the epitome of the Romantic symphony. The recording features the complete version of the symphony and will be followed in future years by the first and third symphonies as well as the Symphonic Dances.

With Nothern Song, Steve Tibbetts made his ECM debut and introduced listeners to what remains one of the label’s most enchanting, if slowly unfolding, maps. The cover seems to tell us everything: silhouettes of islands superimposed on the journey that takes us to them, as if the dream of arrival were potent enough to burn itself across the rearview mirror of our lives. Tibbetts leaves a trail of quiet footprints easily obscured by “The Big Wind,” yet whose direction is not so easily forgotten. With circumpolar affinity and a sensitivity that is for all intents historical, Tibbetts traces the borders of our lives in “Form.”

The sound is spectacular in whatever format you choose but the jump to Blu-ray is, as in vision, a leap forward. None of which would matter were the performances not also uniformly excellent: This is a superbly alive performance of the Britten Simple Symphony, making it sound a much more ambitiouswork than usual. The disc features two world premiere recordings by David Bednall: settings of two Marian antiphons Alma redemptoris mater and Ave regina caelorum that ‘complete’ the partly-lost set of works that Howells wrote for Westminster Cathedral.

Melvin Howard Tormé was born in Chicago in 1925 and began singing professionally at the age of four, and began appearing on radio from 1934 to 1941, by which time he had already begun to write songs. His first to find success was ‘Lament To Love’ that was recorded by Harry James in 1940, the most famous among the 300 he wrote was, ‘The Christmas song.’ Two years later Mel joined the Chico Marx Band before appearing in Frank Sinatra’s first major film ‘Higher and Higher’ in 1943.

And now the composer Jeremy Menuhin presents himself for the first time on CD as well: The duo's new GENUIN CD exclusively features world premiere recordings. One of the most popular saxophonists performing today, Huw Wiggin has been said by The Times to have a tone of 'liquid gold'. For his latest album Huw has put together a programme that is as varied as it is popular, and for which he commissioned several brand new arrangements by John Lenehan, including Debussy's 'The Girl with the Flaxon Hair'. The result is a unique journey of contrasting repertoire, enlivened by the versatile nature of the saxophone, and these innovative interpretations bring a new twist to familiar musical territory.

This album features opera arias by Verdi recorded by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ivo Lipanovic, and Romanian-Swiss soprano Elena Mosu. Mosu studied at the Conservatory George Enescu in Iasi and won several international competitions before graduating, including the international music competition organised by the German Broadcasting Network ARD. In 2017 she was nominated for the international prestigious OSCAR DELLA LIRICA.
