This release is a bit like stepping into a time warp – before they were a folk-rock band and before they were a progressive rock or art rock band, Jethro Tull were pretty much a loud rock & roll band working from a blues base, with a few elements of jazz and folk thrown in, and that's mostly what you've got there. The dominant instrument is Martin Barre's heavily amplified, chord-driven lead guitar playing, which crunches and slashes with the best of them on most of this performance – Ian Anderson's vocals, flute, and acoustic guitar are present, to be sure, and they find a balance on the then-new song "My God," but even at the their folkiest and droning-est, Tull were still a hard rock band in those days with an irresistible propulsive force in their work.

Deep Forest is the first studio album by the musical group Deep Forest, consisting of French duo Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez. The album mixes New Age electronics with UNESCO field recordings of music from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Solomon Islands, Burundi, Tibesti, and the Sahel. Deep Forest was nominated for the Grammy Award as Best World Music Album in 1994. For Sanchez and Mouquet, the most important purpose of the album was to express their own fascination with the Efe people, and open the world's ears to the exquisite sound of a quickly vanishing culture. As Mouquet noted, "It's not very often you can hear a Pygmy singing on the radio."

Following in the footsteps of your father is a difficult task, particularly if your father is someone as darkly gifted and idiosyncratic as Leonard Cohen. Adam Cohen, however, is sharp enough to avoid being pegged as a "new Leonard Cohen." That doesn't mean he establishes himself as an individual musical talent on his eponymous debut. Cohen does occasionally flirt with the somber poetry his father made famous, but his music is altogether more polished, sounding like smooth adult contemporary instead of haunted folk. That would have been forgivable if the songs actually said something. Instead, Cohen wallows in sophomoric poetry and insights that are far removed not only from his father's work, but most of his late-'90s peers. There is some promise in his melodies, as in "Tell Me Everything," but for the most part, Adam Cohen delivered his debut album before his talent had truly gestated.

Sam's fifth album "ReBoot" was released in the UK on the 25th September 2000 and it's a wonderful album, diverse and very original, with plenty of nice surprises, contemporary production, faultless musicianship and of course Sam's remarkable voice as expressive as ever. It ranks alongside Sam's best ever work.

After Haydn composed The Seven Last Words for chamber orchestra as a devotional accompaniment to the Good Friday liturgy at Cadiz Cathedral in 1786, several other arrangements were made during his lifetime, by himself and others, all of them familiar to us now: as an oratorio with soloists and chorus, and in string quartet and solo keyboard transcriptions.

Little has been heard of Giovanni Battista Somis the composer and his works have failed to reappear in the concert hall even after several decades of historically informed performance practice. This state of affairs is even more surprising given the high musical quality of his works. Together with Johannes Hammerle, Wolfram Schurig plays several pieces of Somis and adapts them for the musical duo of flauto and cembalo.

It all began when leading lady Dani Klein was stuck in Brussels during the pandemic lockdown. Not being able to go to her home in Andalucia, she decided to make the best out of a bad situation. Together with Thierry (Plas) and François (Garny), the three started working together on a daily basis at Thierry’s Zoo Studios. New songs, inspired and forced by the circumstances. Once the arrangements ideas were completed – and the lockdown was history – musicians came in to play the parts. Sometimes asking them to improvise as well. And after a little more than two years the album was finished. ‘SHADES OF JOY’ is a vintage Vaya Con Dios record. And with an 8-page booklet with beautiful photo’s of the band. One of the great recent versions of - arguably - the towering string quartets of the 20th century is by frequent Buffalo visitors the Vermeer Quartet. Three decades separate the composition of the first Bartok Quartet from the sixth and last. Not only is the stylistic diversity within them often much exaggerated but so too are the difficulties presented by the third quartet, which, for all its dissonance, is so structurally cohesive (it's the shortest at 15 minutes - half the length of the first, fifth and sixth) that it remains one of the most powerful works in the quartet repertoire.

Although Sweet Child is usually cited as the group's high-water mark, Basket of Light finds them at their most progressive and exciting. Highlights of this album – which actually reached the Top Five in the U.K. – include the buzzing jazz dynamics of "Light Flight," their moving rendition of the traditional folk song "Once I Had a Sweetheart," their reinvention of the girl group smash "Sally Go Round the Roses," and "Springtime Promises," one of their finest original tunes.
