Nel settembre del 1959, a quindici anni, vince il Festival di Castrocaro, in cui aveva presentato la swingata Quando una ragazza (a New Orleans) di Lelio Luttazzi e Cry Me a River. Viene ingaggiata dall'etichetta discografica Bluebell Records, con la quale incide due 45 giri. Il primo, Sul banco di scuola, è un blues scritto da Giorgio Calabrese (che si firma con lo pseudonimo Screwball).
Dopo averla notata in uno spettacolo al Teatro Sociale di Busto Arsizio, Fred Buscaglione le propone di entrare nel suo gruppo, gli Asternovas. Dopo una breve esperienza al Royal Club di Napoli, la collaborazione si interrompe in seguito alla morte dell'artista torinese in un incidente d'auto. Stefan Irmer performs on volume 1 of the complete nocturnes of John Field. Field never viewed his works as finished; every time he performed them he added something new to them – inspired by the circumstances, the public, and the atmosphere of the moment. For this reason, some of his nocturnes have been transmitted in significantly different versions. Stefan Irmer rises to this challenging piano adventure: employing musical means from our times, he continues Field's music, adding his own ideas to it. Influences from jazz and tango are also in evidence.

Revered as one of the originators of swamp rock, Tony Joe White has recast a number of his classic songs on Deep Cuts, proving that time has no jurisdiction over funky. His signature groove, starting from his 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie," is what he uses to paint a vivid picture of the world he experienced growing up, where poverty provided unity between otherwise divided races and bad-news women were sometimes too good to pass up. Tony Joe cut the tracks with his son Jody providing a rich palette of beats and loops, utilizing both digital and live drums, strings, organs, and the unmistakable timbre of his guitar. White's time-worn baritone is positively haunting, like a restless spirit conjured by the funk that was always the core of his music.

Released for the first time on this 1999 Challenge CD, this live set features the unusual duo of guitarist Jim Hall and valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, two-thirds of the 1957 Jimmy Giuffre Three. Although there are occasions when one of the musicians accompanies the other one, much of the time Hall and Brookmeyer function as equals, improvising together on a set of standards plus an ad-lib blues called "Sweet Basil." Their ability to improvise while thinking of the whole picture and their knack for spontaneously harmonizing really come in handy during this intriguing and frequently exciting outing. Among the selections reborn in the playing of Hall and Brookmeyer are John Lewis' "Skating in Central Park," "Body and Soul," "Darn That Dream," and "St. Thomas." A successful effort that should not have taken 20 years to release.

The young cellist Andreas Brantelid, often accompanied and perhaps guided by the much older Bengt Forsberg, has gained notice for sheer virtuoso chops. But in this recital covering all of Gabriel Fauré's music for cello and piano, it's his way with a sheer melody that impresses the most: the two Berceuses (cradle song), the flawless unfolding of the two sonata slow movements from simple opening material (sample that of the elegiac Cello Sonata No. 2 in G minor, Op. 117), the remarkable, 54-second Morceau de Lecture (originally for two cellos, and the only arranged work here). Brantelid certainly delivers a smooth performance of the popular Papillon, Op. 77, and all the music here – some of it well known, but most of it not so much – is a pleasure.
