With 40 songs a board this 2CD compilation from German meticulous Repertoire Records this 1995 release remains the most comprehensive and definitive for most glam-rockers and is superior to any other compilations available nowadays. Unfortunately it is out of print. All tracks are original recordings which is not evident regarding Glitter's CD's. Although the late '90s apparently saw the end of Gary Glitter's career, following his conviction for sexual offenses, there is no doubting that for a full 25 years before that tragic denouement, Glitter ranked among Britain's best-loved performers of all time. The hits which catapulted him to fame in the early '70s, the anthemic "Rock and Roll" of course, but also the likes of "I'm the Leader of the Gang," "Do You Wanna Touch Me," and "I Love You Love Me Love"…

In 2001, Concord Jazz described Live at Otter Crest as a "never-before-released live recording." But, in fact, this CD is actually a reissue of an obscure, little-known LP that originally came out on the Bosco label. When Live at Otter Crest was recorded at an Oregon gig on April 24, 1981, Gene Harris was in semi-retirement - he was still performing, but not very often. And it wasn't until 1985 that the pianist's very productive association with Concord would begin. Because Harris had recorded some overproduced commercial projects in the late '70s, bop's hardcore was calling him a sellout. But on Live at Otter Crest, a 47-year-old Harris is hell-bent for straight-ahead, hard-swinging jazz - funky and earthy, yes, but definitely straight-ahead…

"Oltre L'Ignoto" sees Malibran fresh and inspired, the whole album is sung in Italian for the first time. Musically the album follows the same vein as with La Città Sul Lago (1998), their sound is more modern compared to the early days, but still their musicianship has a strong retro influence. Alternating between symphonic arrangements with powerful organ, harmonic flutes and sensitive guitar work and more Neo-Proggish moments with floating synthesizers and strong guitar solos, Malibran are still alive and well, offering some splendid moments among the overall decent stuff of the album, especially in the longer tracks. There are also plenty of acoustic passages with the support of violin, cello and smooth bass to give a sort of dreamy feeling to the album.

At the heart of Trio Origo's repertoire are the earliest trios composed for clarinet, cello and piano. The origins of the repertoire lie in the Gassenhauer Trio composed by Beethoven in 1797 for a clarinetist, probably Joseph Bähr, who also suggested to the composer that he use a hit tune known as a Gassenhauer from a recent opera by Joseph Weigl. Beethoven (uncharacteristically, but with perhaps an eye on the works future commercial success) duly obliged, and made Weigls tune the basis for his theme-and-variations finale but he also produced a version of the trio substituting the clarinet for the violin to ensure its popularity.

Robert Schumann knew his way around the piano like hardly any other composer. During his constant quest for new sound, it must have been a real experience for him and his wife Clara when a pedal – as on an organ – was added to their grand piano. The Amsterdam Piano Duo has set out to relive this revelation on this recording of the Studien für den Pedalflügel on an Erard grand piano from 1837 in a version for piano four hands by Georges Bizet.

John Renbourn - The Lady And The Unicorn (1970). The Lady and the Unicorn is the 1970 solo album by British folk musician John Renbourn. Featuring Terry Cox playing hand drums and glockenspiel, with future John Renbourn band member Tony Roberts and violinist Dave Swarbrick. The repertory consists of medieval and early classical pieces, interspersed with the expected folk material - keyboard works from the Fitzwilliam virginal book (transcribed for guitar) stand alongside traditional tunes such as "Scarborough Fair," which turns up as part of an 11-minute track that also incorporates "My Johnny Was a Shoemaker," with Swarbrick at the top of his form on violin. The album is entirely instrumental, but as with other Renbourn releases, one hardly misses the vocals…

Pioneering English band Depeche Mode took the underground electronic club sounds of the early '80s and expanded them to stadium-sized levels within a decade, becoming one of the best-selling international groups in the process. One of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, they debuted with a bouncy electro-pop spirit which gradually developed into a darker, more dramatic synth-rock style that ultimately positioned them as one of the most quintessential alternative bands of their era. Earning a modest European following with early releases like 1981's Speak & Spell and 1983's Construction Time Again, they made their U.S. breakthrough in 1984 with their platinum-certified fourth LP, Some Great Reward…
