When he settled in Weimar, Franz Liszt was introduced to the organ by several virtuosos from the region. At the same time, he became a major source of inspiration to many local musicians. This CD pays tribute to these personalities and some of their compositions, for without them Liszt’s organ works might never have been written.

Fascinated by the folklore of his native Bohemia, and gifted with inexhaustible melodic inventiveness, Antonin Dvorak went through several creative periods as he gradually broke out of the Classical mold; the last of these was deeply influenced by the years he spent in the United States. Half Baroque, half contemporary, half French, half British: that is the challenge taken up here by Franck-Emmanuel Comte and Le Concert de L'Hostel Dieu. This recording presents in the same program pieces by Lully and by Purcell, together with contemporary creations by the Frenchman David Chalmin, inspired by Purcell, and by the British composer Martyn Harry, inspired by Lully. Both contemporary composers combine the sounds of Baroque instruments with their own expression, thus removing borders and engaging in a dialogue involving different periods and different languages. After he died in 2014 she wrote this song for him. 'Life is Beautiful', in fact, is her most jazz-focused album to date. But though many of these ten new songs sound like classics, seven of them are Joelle originals.
